Vows....

Re: Vows....

  • No I am not a very good writer plus with how emotional I am, I would bawl my eyes out if we had our own written vows. So we will just be using general ones.
  • No, but we are going to try to memorize the normal ones.  Fingers crossed!
  • We're not writing our own, but we're picking our own vows. The company we went through has a client only part of their website and it has each part of the ceremony broken down into categories and each category has about 4+ didn't verses and we can mix and match to make it just for us! And they said we don't have to go strictly off their site we can bring in our own or any other ones we want.

  • I don't think we'll write our own.  If FI was all for it, I'd say sure, but I don't think he'd be into it.  We'll be picking our own though, so they'll be a little different than the "to have and to hold, til death do us part" thing.  I want them to be super honest, and promises that we'll make for the rest of our lives.  I don't care if FI makes them up or finds them online, or combines different ones he likes.

  • yes we are :)  It was the one thing we agreed on from the beginning and a big recommendation by our officiant.  I personally think vows are a chance for you to truly express your own love for your husband/wife, not some ones written by someone else.  It's meant to be what YOU promise your SO so you should write them :P

I am incredibly sappy and will definitely cry while writing them and reading them :P but I think its worth wrecking the makeup for!  Plus we're going to frame them and make a piece of artwork out of the handwritten vows so we can read them to each other on every anniversary and as a constant reminder of the promises we made to each other :)
  • Yes, we are.  FI is the one all for it and he is excellent with words, so I just hope mine don't pale in comparison!

  • We are writing our own. FI really enjoys writing and poetry, so he asked if we could write our own. We aren't religious people, so we feel it will fit us better to write our own!
  • No we aren't.
I am too afraid I would be all crying and forget something and sometimes fiance isnt the best at expressing how he feels and he says the wrong things when he means something else- so its a recipe for diaster!

  • I wrote my vows last night and i cryyyyyyy at every wedding i go to but for some reason I didnt even cry when i wrote them so i maybe okay during that part.....................I think it makes it so much better writing your own but I understand why some ppl do not......

  • I don't think we'll be writing our own as we plan to be married in a Catholic church and they're pretty strict with the ceremony. I think it works better for us because I have bad stage fright and he isn't much of a talker, lol- in this case, writing our own vows is what wouldn't be "us."

  • nooope.  in fact, from the catholic vows we get to pick from, we're probably going to go with the one where we say 'i do' or 'i will' or whatever it is, instead of repeating after the priest.  least chance of tears! =P
  • We are having a catholic ceremony, so for the most part our choices consist of either repeating after the priest, or just I will/i do. Although I love personally written vows, i also like the idea of saying the same vows that our parents and grandparents have said. Plus face it, i cry alot, and hopefully this will limit the waterworks

  • We are both writing our own vows.  My partner is a journalist and writer, so he has been super excited about doing his own vows (told me the other day he already started writing them in fact!).  I am eager to truly express how I feel about him, but do worry that it will be more of a challange for me.  I will proably look at stuff on-line for ideas.
