How many dresses did it take you??

I went last nite for the 1st time. Narrowed it down to 2, but I have an appt at another salon Sunday morning. I really like my choices. One is mermaid style very curve flattering for me. The other makes me feel like a princess :). How long did it take some of you to find your dress?

  • I might be in minority here, but I only went to one store and found the dress there. I've tried on about 10 or so, and knew the one that I wanted right when I put it on.

  • I am the type of person that knew I wouldnt find my dress at the first store, although I did find one there that I liked, but didnt love. The second store was horrible, and I had a ton of luck at my third store finding about 4 dresses that I absolutely love. One of those will definitely be my dress. I would say I probably tried on about 10 dresses between the first 2 stores.

  • I looked online and thru magazines FOREVER to find a style I wanted. I decided on a halter dress because strapless makes me nervous lol. That help narrow things down. Then I saw a dress that took my breath away on davidsbridal.com and it was on sale. Went it and tried it on and viola! it is now hanging on the back of my door :)

  • I went to three different stores, one of which I went to three times to keep trying on the same dress until I could convince my mom that it was the one. But I probably tried on 30-40 dresses. I lost count.

As far as time, I looked through magazines forever. Our physical search spanned over probably four months though.

  • I also went to one store. I had to try on about 10 - 15 different dresses. But I eventually did find a beautiful dress.

  • I knew what type of gown I wanted, but most stores didn't carry anything like it and it was out of budget. I feel like I tried on close to 100 dresses before finally trying on the out-of-budget gown. The instant I put it on, I knew it was the one and was lucky enough to have the salon sell it to me off the rack. Still over budget, but I loved it and am glad I made the purchase.

Like blferguson said, I looked at tons of magazines for months prior, so I knew what style and image I wanted. So if you're stuck between a couple gowns, think about what you want the gown to say about you... sweet, sexy, classy, romantic, elegant, flirty, fun, etc. It helps.

    You should post pics :)

  • Well as soon as I actually got engaged my wedding dress style totally changed.  I looked at a lot in magazines and thought I knew what I wanted.  The first place had nothing great.  Then we stopped at a place just because we drove by it, and found lots of dresses.  Tried on about 12 before trying on a 'one just because it was FUN".  Well I totally had a moment and ordered it that day.  They recommended it be ordered 9 months early, and it was done in a month and a half.  So now I'm just waiting to go pick it up from the salon!

Good Luck, remember to have fun with the experience.

  • I went to 2 boutiques... The first one, the sales girl was a moron and didn't seem to understand what I was wanting. The second boutique, I tried on about 5 dresses. The sales girl was amazing and found just what I was looking for, BUT my mom found a dress that I had overlooked... I fell in love with it, but I didn't buy it because I had an appointment at Kleinfeld in NYC the week after. Kleinfeld was a nightmare. The sales woman kept insisting I wear this padded corset/bustier underneath dresses, and I kept telling her I didn't want to because it made me look bulky and I really didn't want my boobs to look bigger (I'm a size 4/6, and any extra bulk makes me look bigger than I am... Lol). Also, they have VERY few dresses in the 3K and under price range. The whole appointment felt rushed, and she kept ignoring the style I was requesting and kept pulling dresses SHE thought I would look better in. Ladies, Kleinfeld isn't what it's made out to be on Say Yes To The Dress. Oh, and Randy wasn't even there, which was a bummer, lol. I ended up going to the 2nd boutique (in Colorado Springs) and bought the dress I had originally fell in love with. So, it took me about 3 appointments until I decided on my dress. =]
