  • I'm basing this on the kiddo...He lost his first tooth around 5 or 6, if I remember right.
  • Wow.

I was reading a Babble article about 7-y-olds getting braces, and I was all confused, because when I got braces at 14, they had to pull all my remaining baby teeth - 6 of them.

I didn't lose a tooth until I was well into being 8; Bacon has never had a loose tooth.

  • I don't remember specifically, but they were all gone by middle school.  I do remember the tooth fairy forgot to take my tooth and I saw my brother slipping a dollar under my pillow.  My parents were pissed because they usually only gave a quarter.

I went to an orthodontist for a consult several years ago.  He said that they are doing braces much early on kids now because it's more effective.  He also said the early they start stretching palates and such the easier because the bones haven't all fused.  Apparently with girls it's even better to start early.

  • Man.  I had to have a lot of teeth removed, but I was done losing teeth by 10 or so.

  • I don't know, either. I'd have to look.

Niece is 6 and has already lost one, though.  I'm pretty sure I was in first grade.

  • How can they tell if the teeth won't fit, though? My baby teeth were gorgeous; it wasn't until my adult teeth started coming in all weirdly spaced and jacked up that anyone thought I'd need braces.

Are the teeth like all hanging out in the jaw? Can they x-ray them? Bacon's dentist didn't mention anything when she got her x-rays.
