Not Catholic, but I have a question

I am getting married at a historic building across the street from a Catholic church.  Before the ceremony I want to do a prayer for my godfather who has lung cancer.  The wedding is kind of a destination wedding from the stand point that I don't live there anymore so I am no longer close to anyone in the religous community.  I think it is important that this prayer be lead by someone who is ordained, and my officiant won't work as he is a retired judge.  I am thinking of talking to someone at the Catholic church to see if someone would be willing to come over and lead our family in the prayer before the ceremony.  Because I am not familiar with Catholic traditions and rituals I wanted to first ask here and make sure that I am not asking anything that could possibly offend anyone at the church.  Any insight would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

provided that he doesnt have a mass to say or confessions to hear, or other parish obligations, i cant see why a priest would deny saying prayers for anyone, especially someone who is ill.

another option might be to find someone who is retired clergy in that area who might be available without as many committments.

I don't see anything wrong with it as long as you explain the situation, which I am sure you will do. But like calypso said, priests are very busy, so don't be surprised if one is unavailable. If a priest is not available, you could always see if a deacon is.

I would give them a call. If one of their priests or deacons is unable to do it, I would imagine that they can recommend someone who can.

I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. I will keep him in my prayers as well.
