dress drama update

To all of you that have been following my dress meltdown...   Here's an update.

I looked everywhere for someplace to try on the Maggie and had zero luck.  I had the seller send me multiple pictures of her in the dress so I could get an idea of what my body size would look like in the dress.  She added straps and didn't have the dress very "fitted" to her body, so it looked a little big on her.  The corset was laced all the way tight.  So, it was "roomy" on her (although, still beautiful).

With that said though...   she was originally asking $700.00 on recycledbride.  And, when I emailed her for pictures, she said "I am VERY flexible on price".  So, when we emailed back & forth...I asked what was the lowest price she was willing to take for it.  And she responded $900.00.   I had a WTF?  moment.  So, I went and looked back at the listing... and sure enough, it was $700.00.  So, I don't know what that was all about.   But, either way... I'm trying to take that as a sign that this isn't meant to be for me.

I think I am just so desperate to make my dress not "simple".  Everyone that sees it says "oh, its so beautiful !  It's so elegant and simple.   Every time someone says "simple", it makes me want to vomit.     I've tried to order additional appliques to put down the train for my dress... but, Mori Lee doesn't sell them...  and the two seamstresses I spoke with said they could "try" to make them from scratch, but made no guarantees.    I just don't know what else I could do to embelllish my dress.

Ugh.   Back to the drawing board.

Re: dress drama update

  • I have looked on etsy... but its so hard to tell.   I'm looking for the little appliques that are draped down the front and back of my dres...  I just can't think of anything else I can add to the dress to make it sparkle any more, without making it look like "she added everything AND the kitchen sink to that dress ... how tacky"   I was hoping if I got the appliques, I could add some more down the front draping... and a little further "up" and maybe wider on the train.  That's the only thing I could think of to add to it.  I like the beading around the top and down the corset... it's the lower half that makes me go "ugh"...

    Any suggestions?

    here are pictures again.

  • Can I just say this?  I would not in any way classify your dress as "simple."  When I first clicked on the link, I thought "wow!" and "va-voom!"  not "simple."  I love the beading all on the front of the dress and that back is gorgeous.  Now, I know that some strange girl on a wedding board is going to change mind but I just wanted to give you my 2 cents.
  • Agree with PP that simple is not a word I would have used to describe the dress.  It sounds like you are looking to add some more bling, have you thought about your accessories yet?  You could get a killer hair piece and bracelet to pull the look together and make it more you.
  • I just got my jewelry in the mail today. It is REALLY pretty.  I looked at super blingy rhinestones & stuff, but they didn't look right with the dress.  The beading is sort of "delicate" and pearls, so when I just added blingy jewelry, it didn't flow well.  So, I ordered this and it just arrived. It is rhinestone & pearls... so, since the beading on the dress is pearls, it looks pretty good together. (I held the jewelry up to the picture of my dress on my monitor!  LOL)

For my hair, I just got an ivory flower with some rhinestones and a couple of very very small feather accents in it. I am not wearing a veil, although, my original thought was to wear a birdcage veil.  But, the netting on the birdcage looked odd with the chiffon. So, I was going to add more of a tulle birdcage to the flower.  I'm not that crafty, so I'm waiting for a friend to help me with that.

My head is sort of a peanut.  LOL  I have a tiny little head... I have to buy kid's hats sometimes.  So, the huge hair pieces looked like I was wearing a bird on my head!  LOLOL

I think I just am having such a hard time getting over the vision of BLING in my head.
  • I think I'd email the seller again and mention that she has the dress listed for $700 on recycled bride... she might come down to that price at least :/

As for your dress, the first word that came to mind was "va-voom."  In no way is it simple.

If you're still trying to make it more detailed, maybe contact an Etsy seller and see if they can match the applique?  You could take detailed photos to send to them and see if they could agree to match them up.  Can't hurt to ask!
  • thanks!    I did email the seller... and asked her about the price.  She said that she made a mistake on the listing and thought she had it listed at $1,000.00.  So, she would be willing to come down no lower than $800.00.  Which is still great for that dress... but, since I already have an $1100.00 dress hanging in FSIL's closet that I may or may not be able to sell.... I just can't do that.    Particularly, since my original dress budget was $1,000.00!

I am going to try to some beading stores and see if they have any of the appliques and try esty sellers.  that's a good idea. I looked for some appliques on esty... but, didn't talk to anyone about specifically MAKING the appliques.

I also think I need to start working on my tan !  I look at the pictures of me in my dress and feel sort of washed out. Maybe if I had a little color to my skin... it would help.   I don't know.

Everything for my wedding is almost DONE. I have everything so organized... and everything is either already ordered or paid for with the exception of a few very small items.  But, this dress thing is making me FRIGGIN NUTS.
  • I agree with previous posts, by NO means is your dress "simple". It is a gorgeous dress and I thinkn with your added jewelery and such it will look amazing.
  • I agree with PP that it isn't simple.  Can you try it on with your new jewlery and see how you feel.  Maybe it is just the pic and it depends on your size but the necklace you got, while elegant, doesn't seem small or simple.  It may add just the bling you need.  I think it is gorgeous and a very sexy dress.
