Westin Governor Morris?

Hello ladies!

I am relatively new to the NJ boards since I post mostly over on the South Asian boards, but I knew that only my fellow NJ brides would be able to help me here :)

FI and I are looking into venues and we looked at the Bridgewater Marriott and the Morristown Hyatt so far. I decided to also get a price quote from the Westin Governor Morris for "fun". They seem pricey, but they would be willing to work with us since we'd like to get married this year.

Have any of you ladies looked at the Westin as a possible venue or have you attended a wedding there? I'd love to hear any thoughts you might have!

Thank you!

I called the Westin but their prices were so ridiculously high even with negotiating that they just couldn't compete with the Hyatt, which is where we ended up booking.

I would also advise against the Bridgewater Marriott, I've been to some work functions there and know a few people who have been to weddings there and the food isn't very good.

It's also possible that I am just biased towards the Hyatt because we loved it. :)

I looked their and their prices were terrible! Mind you I'm having a 6month engagement as well. Called in March for wedding this Summer. .They quoted me close to $250 a plate, he said that was their discounted rate since I was getting married this year. I have the file the menu and all that info he sent me, if you want to take a look at it.

I went to a Xmas party there, and the only area to do the cocktail was either in the lobby or the lobby area outside of the ballroom. The food was good, a bit on the salty side, but overall good. The ballroom is nice, like pretty much most hotel ballrooms, the hotel is nice, but I really don't think for that price. I think your paying for the name of the Chef.

I lied I just looked back it would have been about $215, but you don't get much in the food package as far as cocktail hour, so add on's were another $10-$20 a person.

We stayed their for part of a room block. The hotel was nice but we thought the service was ehh. We were even asked later in the bar area (after the wedding) to keep it down since we were too loud (which we werent).

Thanks for the quick feedback! I am surprised to hear abt the lackluster service given that their rates are so high!

Since we'd have an outside caterer, the price is $140 that includes the service and tax. That seems waaaay more reasonable then the $215 that they quoted matiffbengy11! I would have had a heart attack if that was the price they came back with; but I still want to negotiate :)

So far, both the Hyatt and the Westin have made it sound like they'd be willing to work on price etc with us since we're looking at November. I think they just want to be able to book another event for the year so they are more flexible?

I am scheduling some time to go see the venue with FI this Saturday; let's see how flexible they're willing to be!

@Pink: Are you having your wedding in the grand ballroom at the Hyatt? I forget what the name of it is, the one that's upstairs?

Talk to David when you are there. He was great with showing us around. What a lot of people forget about this place is that the rates are so high because they give two comped rooms, maybe three. I forget exactly how many. Being that we were going to be on the smaller side for the room they were willing to make a couple lounge areas within the room.

Yup, we're having the reception in the Plaza Ballroom. Monica is the catering manager and she's wonderful to deal with and is very responsive with the million little questions I keep sending her. My only advice is do not be afraid to negotiate. They are definitely willing to do so especially since you're looking to book this year. Also, the food is incredible. My FH and I were torn between the Hyatt (my choice) and the Olde Mill Inn (his choice) but after we had dinner in their restaurant, he was completely sold. When we had our real tasting both of our parents were really impressed and they consider themselves foodies. Good luck! Let me know if I can be of any help or if you have any questions. :)

Thanks again, Ladies! FI and I are going tomorrow to see the Westin and his mom is coming with us, too. I've been speaking to Scott who seems eager to work with us, so that's always a good sign.

@Pink: I really liked the Plaza ballroom at the Hyatt. Monica has been great so far, esp. with my crazy schedule that took me away for two weeks after we met with her. She's offered us dinner to do a tasting to see how we like it, and we'd also use the chefs from the Indian restaurant onsite, too (since I am Indian but FI is not)

I'll have to put my negotiating hat on and see what we can get :)
