Should I bring makeup pics?

When I meet with my makeup artist, should I bring inspiration pics?  I'm not really sure what I want, but any suggestions where to look?

Re: Should I bring makeup pics?

  • Are you on Pinterest? I found alot of inspiration pics there? I went for a makeover to test the makeup that was going to be used on me for my wedding since I won't have time for a trial and I hated how they did my makeup. After that experience I went looking for inspiration pics!

  • That's what I'm worried about.  Thanks for the tip!
  • Yes, bring pics.

And be ready to explain what it is you like about the picture.

You and your makeup artist might look at the same picture and notice different elements about it, so be ready to say "I like the natural look of this picture, but I like the eyelashes on this one and the lip color from this one"

Also, its helpful to find pics of people with your coloring.  That coral color that looks awesome on someone dark skinned might look silly on fair me.
  • I would definitely bring pictures!

The way I find all my pictures is by googling a celebrity who's look I like!

Yes, bring pictures! It helps the MUA out a lot so she knows exactly what kind of look you are going for, the colors you like, and the level of glam that you are comfortable with. I've known a lot of people who went to get their makeup done and hated it. I knew a girl who even left the place, washed her face, and ended up doing her own because she said it was so bad. It can only help to give the MUA all the guidance you can.

Ditto pp on pinterest. There are tons of good pictures on there. I would also google lots of celeb pictures and photos of people with your hair, skin, and eye color. It helped me a lot to do that.

  • I brought pictures. It totally helps convey to them the type of look you are going for. I didn't know about Pinterest before my wedding, so I used magazines and google. Have fun!

  • I'd let her perform her own artistry with clear guidelines of how much is too much... Everybody looks different and real artists can look at their clients and bring out the best...It may not be something you even realize about yourself...
  • I would! my make up artist (she's in NY so I don't know if that's too far from you, but her email is hrazawi@yahoo.com) normally asks you for what kind of "look" you want and then works around that. Most of the time, if they're professional and know what they're doing, they'll have an idea of what would look best.
