Period HELP!

My wedding day is set for July 28th - Last month I got my period on the 28th and today I just got it (the 28th), which is not normal. I have never had my period on the same day each month, but now that my wedding day is set for the 28th, i've been getting it on the 28th!! My period is usually irregular and now all of a sudden its not.

I'm 20 y/o and I have never took any kind of birth control (i.e. pills, shots, patches) and i'm currently not taking any birth control.

Does anyone know of anything I can take my miss my period on my wedding day? To this date it is 61 days away, so I don't have much time to try a couple different things. I've heard of the Birth Control Shot, Depo-Provera, has anyone used this? And has it worked??

Otherwise, I'm thinking about making an appointment with the gyno and jumping on the pill for the next couple of months.

Any suggestions ladies??
Thanks so much!!

Re: Period HELP!

  • You should just contact your doctor for this kind of information.

  • if youre gonna go to the doctor, do it soon, cuz if you start the pill, you have to do it the sunday after your period starts, so this sunday.  if you cant get into your doctor in time, go to the health dept.  thats where i got mine.  however, sadly, it regulates your period, to basically make sure it starts the same time as your last one.  id still talk to your doctor and see if theres anything you could do.  i would HATE to have mine on my wedding!

Talk to your Dr.  There isn't much time.  Even if your Dr put you on the pill had you skip the last week and go into the next package to skp your June period, you might still spot.  But only your Dr can recomend something so I would call for an appointment tomorrow.

  • Yes go to the doctor, start taking the pill, don't take the placebo pills during the week of your period/wedding go right into the next months pack. Just explain to your doctor what you need/want. I don't take the placebo pills at all. I arrange it so I have one period every 6 mths and my doctor is fine with it.

I would NOT try the depo shot this close to the wedding.  There is a chance you won't get your period at all for at least 3 months.  This is very common.  There is also a chance you will bleed a LOT more.  While probably not nearly as common, it's possible.  I don't hear of this happening on the pill (though I would definitely ask the Dr to be sure). Also, the last time I was on depo for a year or so (shot every 3 months, and sometimes I didn't get it on time) it took an entire year to get my period again.  Which might factor in if you are planning on kids any time soon.

I agree with this. When I was on the Depo shot I spotted almost the entire 3 months. I'd rather deal with my period. You definitely want to go to the doctor about this. You may be out of luck b/c your wedding is only 2 months away, its hard to change your cycle this close without the risk of spotting and such.

I've heard of this, but it MAY be too late to start. Honestly, I would talk to your doctor. FI's brother works in the film industry, and sometimes actresses have to go to the gyno and 'adjust' for filming schedules. I asked him for more detail and he started blushing and said he wasn't sure and I was like, ok awkward conversation over....

Obviously you're going to speak to your doctor prior to making any decision but...

If you have NEVER been on hormonal birth control in your life, there is no way to predict how your body will react to the change. It takes approximately 3 months for your body to fully adjust to BC, so for those 90 days you will likely be inconsistent, moody, spotting, and experiencing any other positive/negative side effect.

I don't think you have enough time to really get the desired use out of switching to BC. I also think it's a silly reason to completely adjust your body's functioning just so you won't be on your period for you wedding.

There are a few, Seasonale and Seasonique are the names that come to mind. When I was working in the pharmacy, they rarely sold because most doctors aren't confident of the studies. My gyno believes that it is not right to only have your period 3x a year, rather than the normal 12. Altering your body like that isn't natural. Like others have said, you need to go to a Dr. ASAP. They are the only one that can help you. It will take time, though. Any reputable Dr. will make you do a physical exam and then take bloodwork before they will prescribe you anything. Depending on the lab, that can take a few days. <div>
</div><div>I started taking BCP 3mo before my wedding, against my Dr.'s suggestion. She, correctly, believed that it wasn't enough time for my body to get used to the new cycle & I'd have spotting. I had spotting through all 3 months and ended up having my period on my wedding day. The exact opposite of what I wanted. You need to go through at least 3 packs of ONE brand of BCP before your body adjusts & your Dr. can assess if it is right for you. At this point, you run the risk of not only it not working to change your cycle, but dealing with all of the likely side effects of breakouts (I had), moodiness/irritability (already had), bloating...It may not be worth the risk now.</div>
  • Welll, I called the gyno this morning and made an appointment for Friday.

I figured i'd give it a try and see what happens - When I start the BCP I can always stop it if it's not what I think it is...

  • In regards to Depo- All of my friends that have used it (5 women) have pretty quickly gained weight on it, some as much as 20 or 30 pounds. It's just an anecdote, and I'm no doctor, just something I've noticed, that you might want to be aware of.
  • I'm glad you have an appointment with the doc. I would suggest the nuvaring. You can skip your period on it as well.
  • I just want to warn you especially that since you have not taken an BC hormone before that some people have bad reactions to different prescriptions. As you are getting close to your wedding I am sure you are experiencing all different emotions and the pill can exaggerate those even more so just be prepared.
  • It's definitely a good thing you're going to the doctor-- but just be aware that on top of weight gain, BC can cause fluctuations in skin and could cause breakouts.

  • If you do end up having your period on your wedding day, check out a product called "Instead" www.softcup.eu
I think I got it once at Walgreens.

  • So I met up with my gyno on Friday afternoon and she went over all the different types of birth controls that there are. I told her I wanted the pills and I told her my situation. She said the pills are most effective after 30days. She said she gets a lot of girls that come in that need to skip their period for events. Tomorrow I start the first pill.

    Hopefully it works Laughing
