Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

emailing dj's

I am in the early stages of planning my wedding!! I have the venue booked and now searching for vendors. I have sent emails to several djs about more info about there pricing and if they can provide ceremony music and some have emailed me back quickly but are out of my price range. some havent responded back at all!! I really think 48 hours should be a good turn around time to return a email. Here is my prob I have one dj who I like but he is so slow when returning emails but atleast he knows and admits this.He always answers his phone so that makes me feel better. I had another dj I liked and his prices are very reasonable. I wanted to meet him in person so he can see the venue(hes never worked there before) I needed to know if I would inquire an addtitonal set up charge for the cermony. Plus any dj I pick I would want them to see the venue first anyway. here was his resonse to meeting up at the venue:

I sorry but I’m not sure where Dudsdread is. I assuming it is in Orlando. I would be happy to talk to someone from the venue, but I wouldn’t be able to meet you there because it is probably an hour drive or more form where I am here in Winter Haven. I don’t minds coming to Orlando to do your wedding but I wouldn’t be able to make additional trips there. I can talk to the people there and find out what I need to know to determine if I will need additional equipment for the ceremony

ok what kind of response is this? i wouldnt want a dj coming to the venue site unseen on the wedding day!!

That's kind of ridiculous.  An hour isn't really that far of a drive for a DJ, at least where I come from I know DJs will drive between Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse for weddings, a distance of probably 200 miles.

I'd go with the slower responding DJ if he is willing to come to your venue.  A lot of DJs do it as their side-job and sometimes may not respond right away, I think its acceptable to respond two days later if this is the case.

Our venue is about a good hour & a half from where our DJ company's office is. I wouldn't expect him to drive all the way out there. I am confident that he will fine in regards to set up, working with the staff etc.

Does your venue have certain rules and/or situations that concern you in regards to your DJ??
