Calindi

Hey girl,
H and I are hammering out the detials of our Honeymoon cruise. We are unable to find (1) Direct flight to Miami (2) Flights early enough for us to make the ship.
So we plan to fly out a day early and stay over either at our connection city or Miami. Do you have the skinny on any resonable hotels near port? The ones I have been able to find are outragiously expensive.

Thanks a million :)

Re: Calindi

  • Definitely use Priceline Negotiator!  Flat rates are really expensive this time of year until like May, but you can get great deals there.  If you put Coral Gables or downtown, you'll be within a $30 taxi ride of the port.  Coral Gables, 4 star, and $60-70 should get you this amazing hotel not far from our house.

I'd LOVE to grab a drink with you guys while you're in town if you have any time!  Also, perhaps we could drive you or pick you up and save you a cab fare?  We're rather close to both the airport and the port - kind of in between.

  • Grabbing a drink would be fabulous! We are still playing around with flights since we are doing this last minute. I'll facebook you a friend request and we can talk details there. :)

We were using expedia and hotels.com but everything was $150+

Omg, a possible GTG with you two?! I am so jealous!!!

Shan, next time you go on a cruise, go out of Norfolk! Also, I agree with Priceline, they're usually very good. Try Hotwire and Cheapoair too. Make sure you check on Kayak for their price predictors. Have you tried calling airlines for discounted military tickets?
  • Shan, check out Ft. Lauderdale if you can't find anything cheap into Miami.  It's going to cost about $75 in shuttle fees to get to the port, as it's an hour away, but it might save you a lot more on flights!

    <div>Yes, ditto!!</div><div>
</div><div>I have cruised out of Miami once, but H and I had stayed in Orlando for a few days before and just drove in that morning.  Other than that cruise, I have always gotten in the day before so that we're closer to the port in the morning and can get there first thing.  I love getting on the ship as soon as possible because it basically gives you another entire day on there.  You just can't get into your room until later on because they are cleaning, but it's totally worth getting in the night before.</div>

We'll try :). Beach and I almost had a GTG but we ended up a week early. Her advice made our trip though. I mean we aren't that far.

The Expedia lady (called to compare cruise prices with NCL) said Ft. Lauderdale would work too, but flights were the same if not more.
I'm at the point where I'll let NCL book the flights for me haha

Last time we cruised H was coming from CO and I was coming from Minnesota I went through a travel agent since we were going with a group. It was SO NICE and super easy plus reasonable.
  • Wow, H and I are skyping and he misplaced his passport, so we may not be able to go after all. This is the second time he misplaced it since August. The kid has 2 passports (Military and Personal) and he always seems to misplace his personal one. I even asked him if I could keep it with mine.. and NOOO I couldn't.

    sigh.
  • Where are you looking for flights?  My favorite site to use is Kayak.  But then don't forget that some airlines only list their prices on their own website, like Southwest.

When I was very little my mom took us on the Disney cruise, which was 4 days at the resort in orlando and 3 day cruise. SO much fun. But other than that I have ported in Miami and San Juan. San Juan was really tiny and cool but a PITA to get out of. Their airport can not sustain all the cruise guests IMO.

Kayak, I also have them show expedia and hotwire. Southwest doesn't fly out of the airport near us. So we never check them. The cheapest flights we found were AirTram for $770. :( The rest were all $1k+
  • Boo for not finding his passport!  What ports are you going to?  Can he use his military passport?

Holy cow, that's expensive!  Like DNBeach said, going to Orlando might be an option if it's much cheaper.  It's about a 3.5 hour drive, and you'd have to pay for a rental car, but it might save you a lot of money.  Palm Beach is another airport that is a bit further than Ft Lauderdale and sometimes (though rarely) cheaper.
