Engagement photos?

What's the point of engagement photos? As far as I can tell they're really only useful for photo STDs and for showing off on facebook. I love fancy photos and I love showing off on facebook, but that's just not enough for me to justify the expense. I get the "freezing the moment in time" argument, but we take plenty of photos together normally, so I don't see any need to getting engagement photos, unless there's some huge reason I'm not thinking of.

    Our e-pics were including in our photography package but for me it gave us a chance to work with our photographer before the wedding. More like a trial run to make sure that we all clicked and we would like the final product.

    Yea most people use it as a trial run for their photographer. FI is big on pictures so we have to take them. Frame them, hang them around the house. One is going on our STD and we're gonna find a way to incorporate them in our reception, but that all goes back to FI and his picture obsession.

    We skipped them because we aren't putting a pictures on our STDs and there wasn't any other good reason to pay for it.

    This. I'm glad we ended up doing them, but probably would not have paid for them if they were not already in the package.

    I second this. I enjoyed getting to have a session with our actual photographer so we got an idea of how he works, what he does, he style of pics, how he edits them, etc. And he got to know us a little better as well.

    As everyone already said it was a good way to make sure we liked the photographer. We don't have very many good pictures together so that's another reason it was important to me. We also used them for our save the dates.

    We used them as a trial run, they were included in our package, one of them is on our STDs, and also I just really really love pictures.

    I'm already friends with our photographer (we used to work together), so our e-pics are more for a creative run with them. FI and I met at an ad agency, so we're doing a "Mad Men" stylized shoot with them.
