Suit Rentals in Portland

We would like to rent suits rather than tuxedos for our wedding, and have only found Mr. Formal to offer suit rentals.  They don't have a very large selection, I'm looking for gray suits.  Any idea of other suit rental stores in the area?

Re: Suit Rentals in Portland

  • hi -

try Este's Men's wear (they make custom suites and do rentals also - they had a charcoal tux/suit as well) in NW or we did Rosewood Bridal for our Tuxes - they are a retailer for Jim's Formal Wear.  Our tuxes are charcoal gray..but the pants are flat front pants with out stripes.  You can probably very easily use them - with out the vest. We went with Rosewood since we're covering all the tux costs ( 15 of them) to it was a little cheaper than Estes. but both have great quality light wool suits and tuxes.

    hope that helps

  • I had the exact same problem, couldn't find suits for rent anywhere, only tuxes. We ended up having the groomsmen and my fiance (and dads) buy suits we found locally that were grey "sharkskin" which was the light gray color I envisioned, and the more relaxed look. They were on sale at JCPenney during May and June for $100 for the set. I told the guys they would spend more to RENT a tux, and they get to keep this. No brainer. I also picked out plain white shirts and ties for them as well. Some grumbling, of course, but hey, I told them they'd look good! haha Definitely shop around for some good deals, I'm sure you'll find something.

  • I just checked out Este's, they have VERY nice suits, but at $200 a piece to rent that's going to be too high for some budgets.

Unfortunately Mens Warehouse only rents tuxedos, they don't rent suits.  I'll look into the gray tux idea, Mens Warehouse only had 1 gray tux for rent and it was just ok.

We thought about buying the suits, I'll keep that in mind, $100 each is an amazing deal, nice work finding that!
  • There is also a place on NE Broadway called Well Suited. It's a consignment store for men and they also sell new suits. It looks nice and all suits are cleaned before they sell them.
  • Hey rojacobs..  FI and guys rented a really nice gray tux from Mr. Formal in Salem.  I want to say it was Perry Ellis.  Anyway, they had their standard gray that was really thick and wool like and then they had this thinner, nicer gray one.  I think it is normally like $200 to rent but with all the discounts, it was around $145.  Definitely worth checking out!  Good luck!

As a counter to a prior recommendation:

MY FI and I went to Este's to check out Tux rentals last week. I have no idea if the owner was just having a bad day or if he is normally as rude as he was to us, but I would definitely not recommend  that place to anyone. He *literally* yelled at us (other customers turned to stare!) because we didn't know exactly what style of tuxedo we wanted.

The funny thing is, we actually had more money budgeted for the tux than he was going to rent it for anyway...if he hadn't been so rude, we would have purchased and paid in full that day. I really don't know what made him behave that way but honestly? it was mildly traumatizing.

I wish I had an alternative to offer, I just wanted to save people the disaster of dealing with that guy. >_<
