How did you create STD cards?

Now that I've gotten my engagement photos back, I'm starting to think about creating save the dates.  We want to send them out after the holidays.

Unfortunately, I'm not very graphic design savvy and don't have Photoshop or anything along those lines.

So, can I ask how you ladies created your STD post cards if you did them?  Any tips would be much appreciated.  I am planning to use Vista Print and basically just want something fairly simple to upload.

If you want something simple using VistaPrint, you can use one of their layouts, upload your photo (just the photo, not any text), and edit the text on their layout to make it to your liking. That's probably the easiest way to go if you don't have photoshop or something similar.

Enchanted, what didn't you like about your STD?  I just ordered mine from Vista and and supposed to get them by the end of the week.  You're post is making me nervous to see them.  Did you do postcards or something else?  We got large magnets.

Sorry, I dont mean to make you nervous.  We did postcards.  I did mine in black and white, they looked like this:

They came today, and they are totally sepia.  They look almost brownish.

I used VP for postcards and uploaded an e-pic. I used one of their templates that added a blue band around the picture. I love them! Really simple to use & extremely low prices. The pic I used was sepia already, so I don't know about enchanted's problem, but it is the first I've heard regarding VP.

Enchanted, what I have learned over the years with VP is to just email/call them and explain the issue. They typically take care of it and do a rush ship of your product for you!!! HTH

Enchanted, sorry to hear that you weren't so happy about your STDs.  Hopefully Aligros is right and VP can fix the issue for you.

I used magnetstreet.com because I was not the type that was very creative.  They have all sorts of postcards or magnet designs to choose from and you can change the colors of any of there designs to fit your theme.  I would sign up for there emails to get a discount.  I used a 20% discount code that has since expired.

We used rexcraft.com - this was before I discovered Vistaprint.
Some things I have noticed with VP :

Double check text and legibility. My first set of photo sharing cards the title text was too small to read. However, I waited and used another free code so I was only out the couple $s for shipping.

Also note that colors on the computer may not be true to the real color. Screen resolution does have an impact. We ordered what I thought was purple but when I got it - it was definetly pink. That I was out a lot more $.

    HTH!

<div>This, definitely.  Mine were cut off funny, and the rush shipped me a new set.  I noticed our photos were a little screwy, too, but I think that's my fault for using a low-quality picture.  Either way, they sent me new ones!</div>

weddingpaperdivas.com has some great templates. Minted.com and shutterfly.com also have great templates. I'm thinking I will go with one of those.

Yea, I think I'm just gonna leave it.  I'm not crazy picky, and after the intial disappointment of seeing them, I guess I'm fine with it.  Like my mom said, no one will know they weren't supposed to be sepia.

I used Vista print also... I bought the large magnets, and are super happy with mine!! I've gotten a lot of compliments on them so far!! When I order the STD's I also ordered return labels, and they were cut funny, but I just wrote them an email, and they sent me all new ones!!! So far, I've been very pleased! Good Luck!!

Our photographer designed ours with our favorite e-pics, then FI printed them off on a photo printer where he works.  We got 25 of them for about $4.  It's funny, because our envelopes cost more than the pictures.

I also didnt have any special editing tools so I just used PowerPoint to design mine and VP to print them. You can change a slide size in PP to match up the size dimensions it lists out on VP. Then you can pull whatever pictures, texts, and fonts you want onto the slide. You can even pull in a picture as a background and fade it so the text reads better.

Then once you have your finished product, save it as a pdf file then upload that into VP and it ends up being really clear (saved as a jpeg on the other hand made it blurry). I had a free upload coupon so they ended up being really cheap. You can see the final product in my planning bio under Paper.

Your photog may be able to design your STD! Otherwise... I LOVE DESIGN WORK and would be willing to do one for you too! All I would need is your info/colors/photo you'd like and I could do something for you. Then you'd just need to upload to VP or get them printed somewhere else. I can show you many samples of client's ones I have done. :)

    LC

*update* here is ours that I designed... p.s. I would do it for free for you! :)

I found one that I liked on a website (I can't remember which right now), but they didn't have the color they wanted. So I just used it as a template in photoshop and put the pictures and colors I wanted and boosted up the pixels. Then I uploaded it to VP. I hope they turn out well!

LC - I might take you up on that!  I'm not looking for anything intricate at all.  I basically want to include a photo, or a few, and the date and location.  Someone else posted these photos a few days ago, and I really liked them.

I would like to have the STD sort of show the "theme" of our wedding.  We're having bright sapphire blue, lemon yellow and then some shade of pink to accent.  We're also doing lots of whimisical stuff (e.g. pinwheels, paper loop chains, etc).

I was also planning to include small business card size magnets with our monogram on them, which has the blue and yellow celtic love knot that is my avatar.
