I used to do it every year! but the last couple years Ive stoped. It used to be fun. People were nicer...but the last year or two I did it, people were just downright rude! I hate the pushing and shoving and for me its not worth it anymore. I do like cyber Monday though!!

I may or may not do it this year with my FI.  I know that there's at least one thing he's been eyeing for himself but it's a more wait and see.

Retailers are taking the fun out of Black Friday by actually starting on Thanksgiving or opening that night.  I have to feel for the employees that will miss spending the day with their relatives.  I know that Kmart has been doing it for several years but usuallly close by 8pm.

I have only shopped once on Thanksgiving but it was related to Thanksgiving itself (something needed for the dinner) and not to take advantage of some sale.

My mom and I go every year.  I already have most of my shopping done though.

Sometimes you just have to get up and shop for the deals. Some people are fine with paying full price but I know my mom bought my brother and sister $1,300 laptops for college for $500 or something like that.

I don't remember the last I didn't go out - aside from last year but I was volunteering in Texas so I made $92/month and bought all Christmas presents the week of Christmas when I was home (so I didn't have to check baggage or pay for shipping). Even when I worked at a credit union and had to be at work at 8:30am, I went shopping at 4 or 5...

This year I'm planning to get some "big ticket" items so I will probably be going out. DH and I are going to Art Van tomorrow to try to catch a good deal. [:

I ABHOR shopping on Black Friday. I think the last time I did it was several years ago and the local Walmart had tv's on sale (before big screen tv's, that's how long ago). I saw people throwing (almost literally) 2 and 3 tvs in their carts, and realized there was nothing else I wanted, so I left.

I have purchased a few gifts already at Costco, on sale, and will do the rest of my shopping as I always do: online cyber Monday and with all the coupons I get from Macy's, JC Penney and Lord and Taylor (I have charges with all of them LOL) in the next couple of weeks. The nicest thing about shopping online is that we can get the gifts sent to people out of state rather than buy them and then deal with the Post Office nightmares.

Milsey: I've made all my furniture purchases at Art Van the last couple of years. They have a great credit card through GE Money and I pay monthly on time, all before the interest kicks in at 6 or 12 months. We just got our 40 inch flatscreen from them. They will also match prices: the ad from ABC Warehouse had the same tv for $599, Art Van matched it AND threw in a blue ray player.

I never have shopped on Black Friday, but I have worked the retail side of it.

Growing up I never went because my mom hates crowds and really doesn't think the experience is worth saving money.

As an adult, I have not gone because I always worked on Black Friday, whether hotel or retail.  The last 2 years were in retail management for a common store people go to on Black Friday and we were always very organized.  My stores even had coffee and donuts for our morning shoppers.  We had a ticket system for out front starting an hour before we opened and we force made a line to a few different registers that was created out of clearance merchandise and impulse items. With all of those things in place, I was shocked both years at how reasonable people were.  If I took the same number of people and saw them over the course of a 9 hour shift on an average day I truly believe more of them would have been rude.

This year DH and I are going to look at the ads and we may end up going out, not sure yet though.

I hate black friday and avoid it whenever possible.  DH loves it but since we're now on a budget, I have a feeling we'll be avoiding the crowds.

I worked retail for far too long to ever enjoy the crowds and madness.  No thank you.

I hate crowds and I hate shopping. So I have never been. If there was something I NEEDED that the price was marked down so low, I might attempt it, but for now I will stay away.

I go every year and it is so much fun. We are avoiding the Toy Stores and the Big Box electronics like Best Buy but other than that we are all in. Great lakes opens at 9 so we are going right after thanksgiving dinner. We might even be dont by 3 or 4 instead of getting up at that time which is awesome!

Absolutely not. I hate crowds, lines, and disorganized stores. It's not worth any savings I could potentially get. I'll start shopping next weekend. I've become a convert to online shopping - that way I can shop on my couch, in my PJs with a cup of coffee :)

I did it once- and that was enough for a lifetime!  Cyber Monday for me.

Think I'll spend Friday morning trying to undo some of the Thanksgiving food damage with a Bikram yoga class instead.  Much more relaxing :)

I tried last year for the first time and after standing in line outside of toys r us for our 3 kids, in snow/rain, for 5 hours, I left with bronchitis and pneumonia for over 2 months. It's not worth it to me lol. I'd rather pay a bit more, do layaway, and not deal with crazies.

Sue -- We don't have enough money to throw down for an entire living room set at the moment and that's why I absolutely LOVE the no interest (and sometimes no tax) for 6 - 12 months (or more!). We haven't decided what we want... if we just want 2 couches or if we want a rug, coffee table, lamps, end tables, etc. I don't like loans and I pay way more than the minimum but it's just so nice to have the option to pay in over X many months instead of one big lumpsome. My parents living room and family room are furnished with Art Van stuff [:
