Anybody NOT using a limo?

Our wedding party will be 10 people and I'm not sure if a 10 person limo will be too crowded due to all of the ladies' dresses. One company I looked at had a Hummer limo, but it was $800 for 4 hours. Add on a tip and that's nearly $1k. I feel like I could put that $ towards something better.

I was thinking maybe we could try to find a friend or two w/an SUV that we could borrow....or maybe even seeing how much it would to rent 2 for a day from a car rental company.

Anyone else not paying for wedding transportation?

  • We didn't. DH was already there setting up (he got ready at a friend's house near by) with his best men. SIL & other BM were also already at the venue putting final touches on things. My sister and I got ready at the hotel and rode in with my family members in a 3 or 4 car caravan. Worked out well for us.

I had the hotel take me and my BMs in their courtesy car, and DH rode with everyone else on the hotel-to-ceremony vans we arranged for the guests.  We thought that special cars/limos would be a waste of money; it just wasn't important to us.  But some people really like limos and classic cars :)

We aren't. It's not that big of a deal or worth the money to us. If you don't care, I wouldn't even worry about it.

  • No limo for us!  But, we did have a friend drive us to the ceremony and the after party in his classic car, and that was fun. :) But, it was also free, and we wouldn't have done it if we'd had to pay-- probably would have just rented a nice car for the evening (since we haven't one of our own in the US anymore)
  • Definitely not.  It's a waste of money in my case, and I don't really like limos anyway.
  • We weren't going to at first but then we have a lot of logistics involved so we went ahead and rented one. If it's not that big a deal to you, dont do it. I agree you can use 1k somewhere else.

  • How far are you going between venues?

I personally think the money is better spent elsewhere, especially when other arrangements could easily be made.

  • I generally think limos are a waste of money. If you do want to provide transportation for your wedding party just rent a van.

We aren't doing it, but all of our events, including getting ready, happen at the same location. We dodged the limo bullet.

  • We did not. :)

  • FI and I had an "argument" about this the other day.  I think it's a waste but she really wants one.  The issue is.. we are marrying in a court building downtown where there is NO PARKING. so, she think getting a limo to transport all 20 guests is a good idea so no one will be late looking for a parking spot.  It just a lot of money...
  • We're not, but our ceremony, reception, and all photos will be taken in the same area
  • FI really wants one. I don't really care, but then again, I don't know that I want to just hop in our car to go to the reception either.

Our WP carpooled, and we hired a mini-bus to take our guests between the hotel and ceremony.

ETA: If you are still interested in hiring transportation, call a lot of vendors and look for lower quotes. I thought our mini-bus would be prohibitively expensive until I found a company willing to do it for only half what others wanted to charge. Especially in this economy, there are lots of good deals to be had!
  • Our ceremony and reception are at the same place, so we'll be there early to set up and probably leave before everyone else. Our friends used a limo to leave their reception, but it was all for show because they had to come right back to collect their things and whatnot. Especially for an evening wedding, I don't see the point unless your exit is a big deal to you, in which case you might spring for one just to take you to your hotel or home.
  • We aren't having a limo.  The ceremony and reception are at the same place, and I am getting ready there.  We just didn't see the point in spending the money, when we don't need it.

We're using a trolley for our large wedding party, since it seats up to 22 people.  I agree, a limo for 10 might get crowded.   We're also offering the trolley to OOT guests who might not want to rent a car for the weekend, if they want transportation from the hotel to the ceremony, and from the ceremony to the hotel (reception venue), so it's a better value to use it for multiple trips.

(Sorry for the poor communication today, I only slept 3 hours last night).

    Ditto
  • I'm planning on walking from my hotel to my ceremony/reception site with the wedding party (it's not far), and will probably take a cab back to the hotel at the end of the night. So no limos for us.

  • No limos here. Money is just too tight, and it's really not necessary.

  • I'm not!  Ceremony and reception are in the same place, and if it weren't I would probably just have someone (friend/family) drive us (or drive ourselves, honestly.)
