June 2012 Weddings

Re: EXPIRED

  • Nope. The thought has never crossed our minds. We do it now and there's no reason for us to stop. I'd really become a total **itch if we did and no one wants that.

  • Nope.  Absolutely no point for us.  We've been doing it for 5 years....no reason to stop just for the wedding!  Our wedding night is going to be amazing whether we have been abstaining or not!

  • I had heard from a lot of friends that they abstained and the night of the wedding didn't feel any more "special" because of their abstaining.

So I didn't find it that appealing.

Hell no. What's the point? We won't need an artificial construction to make that night feel more "special." I'm sure in the week leading up to it we won't have any time to get busy, since we will be staying with family. But I am not purposely holding out.

  • We are. We are Christians and believe that God wants us to wait and be pure for the first day of our marriage.
We have been abstaining since October. Not that we haven't messed up a few times, but we are going out of our way to wait.

  • Ditto Jane. I don't understand the point in absatining if you've already done it. Don't understand it at all.

We are! I told my fiance that we are a month before we get married. He was not at all happy about it but he is going along with it for me. He knows how much more it means for me for us to abstain. At first when the date was coming up to stop we would make jokes about it.  I don't care if others don't feel like there would be difference in being "special" but i personally wanted to so it wouldn't feel like any other night.

His friends think its crazy but  a lot of my friends did it.
  • We haven't talked about it, but we haven't had much time for each other the last couple of weeks lately.  FI is working a crazy schedule because he requested only opening shifts the week of the wedding and then will be out for almost two weeks.  I agree with PP though, I don't think abstaining will make the night any more special then it will already be :)

  • We are, mostly so he leaves me the f' alone for a while.

But, in all seriousness, I had a lot of guilt over it, so we decided to stop until the wedding.

Same, we are going to be so busy that we probably won't have time anyway but we aren't witholding on purpose.

How about you just say you believe in waiting? I'm a Christian too and I have sex.

OP - We abstained for a while to prevent a visible pregnancy for the wedding, but then we caved and went back to our regular routine.

  • No. That horse has left the barn.
  • We aren't abstaining either. I don't see the point and besides after the reception we're having an after party at the schoolhouse (where the bridal party and some guests are staying overnight) I doubt when it's at least 3am that i'll want to have sex. I think we'll both agree of being way too tired.

  • Definitely not.  I'm reading Shades of Grey right now and it would be impossible to abstain while reading that!

OP, I would ask if you have considered giving your posts applicable titles so we aren't blindly clicking to see if its a topic we have an opinion on?

  • We're waiting. for the reason of making it special. FI is cool with this too.

  • Prior to my first wedding, my then-FI and I abstained for 6 months.  I got into such a habit of turning him down, that we never did end up having a healthy sex life again.  It was really bad.

FI and I will most definitely NOT be abstaining. Maybe.. practicing and warming up!

  • Jaschelle, have you considered titling your posts with the actual subject of your post instead of the beginning of a question with ... after it?  I would say that at this point in planning most of us don't have the time or energy to read EVERY single post here, so it's super helpful to be able to select which ones peak our interest by reading the subject first.

And no, we will not be abstaining and I have heard from many that sex is not one of the first things on the brain post-reception.

  • Nope, we've done it before and continue to do it.

Plus, for both of us it's a stress reliever and we both could use one of those when we get the chance.

  • Thought never crossed our minds.

Our schedules have been incredibly busy lately with work and wedding planning and now with nice weather rolling around we have family things and graduation parties.  It's hard enough as is to find any time for intimacy.  I'm not willing to give up those few moments we get for what I believe is a silly reason since we've been intimate for years now.
