documents for international travel

Does anyone know if you need any other documents besides your passport for international travel? I'm going to assume a driver's license if you have one, but what about SS card and/or birth certificates?

I've been trying to find the info from the airline but their site is one huge clusterfuck of information and their web designer needs to be fired.

  • If you are traveling from the US into another country all you need is your passport unless it is a country which requires your to obtain a visa.  You do not need your license or SS or anything else just a passport
  • Thanks! I thought so. I haven't traveled out of the country since 04, but I don't remember showing anything except my passport.
  • The only other thing you may need would be proof of vaccinations but it's rare that North Americans need to provide that.  You should only need your passport and a tourist visa (if one isn't issued when you arrive)

  • I am only taking my passport, lisence, and credit card! Just make sure you have copies of all of them just in case something might happen!  Arent airline websites the worst???

This. I'm compulsive and made two copies of everything--one to bring with us (which we left in the safe) and one to leave at home.
  • Also, scan and email yourself a copy of your passport.  I figured even if I lost everything, I could still log into my email and retrieve the scanned document.
  • You really should ever have your SS card with you and with your passport it's WAY too much info to have on your person.

This! Another rec, just incase, is to scan your passports and email them to your parents.  That way they'll have them incase it's needed and you'll also have them stored electronically that you could access anywhere if needed
  • your SSN is good only in the US and is not a form of ID.

you can check the travel.state.gov website for other contry's entry and exit requirements.  the airline sites wouldn't have it.
