bridesmaid dress dilemma

I'm kind of in a tough situation and need some thoughts. My girls ordered their dresses (all different styles but the same designer, fabric and color) and the shop got them in last week sometime. When I went down with one of my girls to pick hers up they brought out one of the dresses to show me and we had ordered it backwards. All of the dresses are cotton candy pink with black accents but her dress is mostly black with a small portion being pink.

They said that the main color of the dress is classified as the small top portion and the accent color is classified as the bottom portion. So now all of my dresses are all pink with either a black sash or buttons or something and hers is 2/3 black.

The bottom (dark purple on the three girls) is black and the top (light purple on the three girls) is pink

They didn't mention anything about calling the designer to see what they could do or getting the dress fixed but they did mention maybe being able to make a pink sash that ties around her waist that could hang down in front to add more pink with the extra fabric from hemming all the dresses up.

Later I called to see if we could exchange it for another dress (they have that policy with their bridal gowns) but they said they don't do it for the bridesmaid lines since they don't carry all the styles and all the colors.

FH says I should make them exchange it since they didn't tell me the dress would be mostly black, but I don't want to make a big scene especially since the bridal shop was just going by what I had specified when I said the dress' main color should be pink and if there is an accent that will be black, although I feel they should have said something when we were ordering it.

What should I do? Is there really anything that I can do other than the sash option that they suggested. I was considering just having her not pick up the dress and ordering another one (eating the 50% deposit) but that seems like a waste of money and her dress would come from a completely different dye lot and won't be here for 3 more months....

I think you should at least try to get them to exchange it. Asking them to do this is not making a big scene, they really should have explained that better. If that does not work then get a thick pink sash so it really lightens it up. Since all the dresses are different I think that will still look great! Its not like they are all the same except for this one different one!

thanks! I think that is what I am going to do. I will try to get them to replace the dress (I am going to point out that the sales girl really should have told me the situation since they knew the look I was going for) and plan b will be to try the sash and if we still don't like it I will buy her a new dress. (I just hope it wasn't one of the ones that was discontinued)
