Mala Wailea Reception

Hi everyone,

I was originally booked at Gannons for my reception but now I might be moving to Mala since we may have more people.  Has anyone been to Mala?  How does it look inside?  Was the food good?  Do you think its nice for a reception?

Thanks

I haven't been to Gannon's, but I did host 3 events at Mala -- welcome cocktails, Sunday brunch, and farewell cocktails.  How many people do you have?  Mala has mixed indoor & outdoor dining.  It's nice but not too fancy.  You do have the option to rent tablecloths to make things a little more upscale.  The food is pretty rockin'.  It has a stunning view and the sun sets almost right out in front of the balcony where most of the tables are.  It's not waterfront, but neither is Gannon's.  You do not, however, have the expansive lawn for photos.  The lobby of the Marriott is pretty picturesque though!

We have 60 people and we would buy out the entire restaurant.  We want a nice restaurant and our guests are all staying at the Marriott so it might be more convenient.  I think we could dress up the location with flowers, linens and lighting but I have no idea what it currently looks like.  When you say its not really fancy, does that mean its pretty low key?  We would like it to be semi formal at the end of the day.  I am glad to hear the food was good.

I'm not sure if this helps or not, but I've been to Mala in Lahaina. The food was really good. It was kind of contemporary looking. I would guess that the Wailea one would be similar.

You could definitely dress it up!  The decor is pretty simple and clean -- darker woods, finished but not frilly paneling, etc.  With the right lighting, flowers, linens, etc you could definitely make a stunning reception.

Did you look at the galleries on their website?  Their photos are pretty representative.  I think the buffet bar is a permanent fixture.  The only other thing would be where you would want the head table, dance floor, etc.

We had our rehearsal brunch for 20 there and used the Buddha room. It was nice. It would definitely be beautiful once you decorated a bit. The lobby and entry into the hotel and into the restaurant are very nice. I am not sure how a dance floor would work though, if you want that. We had our wedding/reception for 75 at the Five Palms in Kihei which is about 5 minutes from the Marriot. I liked it because it's oceanfront. Mala would be beautiful though- the view is great! The service at brunch was very good too.
