Insanity - Day 1

Today I started 'Insanity.' The first day is the fitness test. I like that, because you do it every two weeks and can track your progress. It will be interesting to see how far I come in 8 weeks!

Today was a challenge, but not too bad. I'll probably be a little bit sore, but it was only about 25-30 minutes with plenty of rest breaks. I'm a little nervous for the first real workout, but I'm determined to push through it! Time to get in the shower and get to work. Have a great day ladies!

Good job Tiger! You'll have to let us know what kind of results you get. I'm always interested in finding new ways to kick my own butt!!!

Off topic... But I like your planning bio! The ring is gorgeous! It's so nice that it is your grandma's diamonds. And I love the part about him saying he didn't know where the ring was. Such a cute story!

    Ok... I'd done thread jacking

Good job getting started! I'm sure you will make progress even in the first two weeks. The first week will be the hardest because you'll be learning everything, getting your body adjusted and used to the workouts, but you will probably end up addicted to it like I am! FYI: Chocolate milk makes a really good (and cheap) recovery drink!

[QUOTE]I know that Google is my friend, but I've heard you and others talk about Insanity...could you tell me more about it? I thought I heard it was like a level up from P90X but I might be horribly wrong. Do you need equipment to do it or just free weights?

Insanity is like P90x on crack. It's much more fast paced. You don't need anything at all for it though, so no weights, no mats, no pushup/pullup bars; you use your own body weight. It's a lot more cardio work than P90x is, but has less strength training for specific areas. The workouts are about 40 minutes the first month and about 60 the second month. You WILL see results from it and it even helps you become more flexible. I love it!

The only "equipment" I would recommend is getting good shoes because you do a lot of jumping and it's important to protect your knees.

I found this blog entry that kind of compares P90x and Insanity.  I own both, never made it through either (though I am going to start insanity and stick with it this time).  P90x is a lot more about muscle confusion, so you build more muscle doing that one.  Insanity is like an upside down cardio program...you work at max intensity most of the time, so you burn fat like crazy.  Also, while P90x uses weights and resistance bands, Insanity doesn't use any extra equipment...you just need a lot of room to jump around.

I might have to try Insanity.  I did P90X for a while, and I liked it, but there was too much strength work for me.  I prefer things that focus on cardio, and I like that it doesn't require any extra equipment.  Hmmm...

<div>Especially this.  I don't have the cash to shell out for all of the extras for other programs.</div>

Can't wait to hear about the progress. I'm not really familiar with insanity, but it sounds like it might be something I would be interested in. I wonder if it's bootcamp like.

I'm going to do my measurements tonight. I couldn't figure out how to do them, but then realized I could use one of my belts, then put it up against a tape measure. Not too scientific, but I think it will give me a good idea of the progress. I'll keep you ladies updated, unless you get bored hearing 'Day xy of Insanity was HARD! I can barely breathe and I can't raise my arms.'

elannis - I LOVE chocolate milk. Now that I know I'll be doing this every morning, I'm going to buy some to keep in the fridge. Yum!! PS - Do you want to compare Fit Test numbers? I did ok on some of them (as compared to the people on the video) but on others I was a bit low).

Ember - aww, thanks. It is very special that these diamonds were my grandmothers. Him saying he lost the ring was NOT fun in that moment, but it certainly set me up for a a serious surprise. I wish I was able to take the picture I have in my head of him on one knee in front of me with the rings and show it to you... I should have made him re-create it!

So I went to the blog that amsmith posted and saw the before and after pictures. I would say I probably look pretty similar to this woman's before picture, and I will be THRILLED if I look like her after picture in 60 days!! (Though her arms look a little skinny to me)

    Tiger: Sure!

First round of Insanity (week 1 fit test):
    1. Switch kicks: 80
    2. Squat jumps: 38
    3. Power knee: 65
    4. Power jump: 35
    5. Globe jumps: 9
    6. Suicide jumps: 13
    7. Push up jacks: 14
    8. Plank crunches: 35

My last fit test results (week 3 fit test) were:
    1. switch kicks: 90
    2. squat jumps: 42
    3. power knee: 100
    4. power jumps: 35
    5. globe jumps: 10
    6. suicide jumps:14
    7. push up jacks: 16
    8. plank crunches: 40

I have a hard time with some moves and do better with others and feel like I'm nowhere near as good as the people on the DVD, but as long as I'm progressing, I'm good because I never would have been able to even try this dvd 3 years ago. : ) BTW, your picture is so cute!
