Bachelorette party gifts?

Is this customary?  The last two bachelorette party invitations I've received have requested the invitee bring a gift for the bride from her registry.  I've never heard of this before, but maybe I'm wrong?  I was always under the assumption you brought a gift to the bridal shower and the wedding only.

I've never heard of this. It seems like a bit much to expect of people.

Bachelorette parties usually aren't gift giving events, the party itself is the gift to the bride to have a girls night out with her friends. However, some bachelorette parties include a lingerie shower before going out, maybe that's what the invitations are referring to. I would call the host and ask for more specifics, and if it's another gift off the wedding registry, that's something I've never heard of. That's what the bridal shower is for, not the bachelorette party. How odd.. all dressed up to go out and paint the town red, and yet the bride is opening blenders and bath towels..

I've never heard of this either, but I think some people are starting to confuse the terms around.

That and people are just looking for more gift-giving occasions.

Around where I'm from, we often include a couple lingerie gifts (either from an individual or from a group), but that's it.

I wouldn't feel obligated to get her something, but you could if you wanted to (even something little, like massage oil maybe). But clarify with the hostess first.

In my circle, we do a lingerie gift at the shower. Sometimes its a game where the bride has to guess who its from. Just a fun thing we do in the hotel room while having drinks before going out.

I've never heard of hosts requesting guests bring gifts off the registry. I've never heard of hosts requesting gifts at all for the bachelorette. Although I've never gone to a bachelorette party empty handed, but the gifts I picked out were minimal, (under $25), and typically, um, romantic?! Think robe, underwear, hand cuffs, etc.

Thanks for the input.  I will have to confirm with the host to make sure she didn't mean something more like lingerie.  If that's the case, I may just have to get her a gift card from Victoria's Secret instead of picking something out because the groom is my brother and I really don't want to know what she'll be wearing when they're alone...  Too weird for me :)

Is the bp hosted  or are the guests expected to pay their own way and chip in for the bride for the evening?
