June 2012 Weddings

Save the Date issues

For some reason, I've been slacking on my to-do list.  I looked at sample Save the Dates on Wedding Paper Divas.  Finding two that I thought looked nice, I ordered samples.  They never arrived (it's been about three weeks).  Now I obviously don't want to spend money on the product, so we're back to the drawing board for STDs.

We have an engagement photo that's somewhat charming/funny.  I'm pulling his hand with the biggest smile and he's got an "Oh Lord, what am I getting into?" smile.  It made us both laugh and we thought it'd be cute for a STD.  Something that acknowledges the humor, like "We're so excited!" would be included on the STD.

So, two questions.
1)  Knowing the STD will go to absolute definite invitees - family, close friends, etc. - is a humorous STD okay?  Is it poor taste to "mock" ourselves about the wedding?

2)  What are some FAST photo STD options?  Costco, websites, any ideas?

Thanks ladies.  I know I'm behind on this, so I'm a bit in panic mode.  Be kind if you don't like the idea. :)

Re: Save the Date issues

  • I think a humerous STD is a great idea. It's going to family and really close friends, so they know your style- if humor reflects your style, it's good.

Vistaprint has great deals on free postcards that you can upload pictures to. You can sign up for their email to get the deals, or sometimes just googling will let you find them. If you get the postcards for free, you can spend a little more to get them shipped to you in two days (instead of reg shipping which is about 1-2 weeks).
  • Did you contact Wedding Paper Divas and see what was up?

That surprises me..I did my STDs and invites with them and received both very quickly (within a week), though they originally said they would take 2-3 weeks I think.

I hope you at least got your money back!

  • I think a humorous photo for an STD is fine, especially if it fits your personalities, which I'm assuming it does. We ordered our invites from VistaPrint and our STDs from Zazzle.com. Both are great options.

  • When is your wedding? If it's June it might be getting around the time to consider sending out the invites soon anyways, so maybe the StD's may not even be necessary at this point...

I think a humorous picture would be fine.

As for the STDs, I'd just take the picture, copy it into powerpoint, add some text saying STD, date, your names, location, etc and then save it as a jpeg.  From there, just take it to Meijer, Costco, Sam's, where ever and get them printed and send them out soon.

I know Costco has pretty good prices on picture printing.

I think if you still want to send them out, humorous ones are the best in my opinion. :)

  • June 30th - it's out-of-state for his family and most of our friends (we're both living in MD, and the wedding is in NJ).  I'm doing it mostly to include our website with the hotel information.  I know it's late for most STDs, but I think it's a fast way to get information out about hotels.
  • My STD cards are coming in the mail sometime this week. I'll send them out over the weekend hopefully.  I'm guessing it's a regional thing, but everyone keeps telling me to send invitations 10 weeks before the wedding.  And I haven't even started looking for any, so I'm fine with that!!

What about like mixbook or snapfish? for a quick photo STD.   I think humorous would be fine.  I kinda of regret how "stuffy" ours look, it might not be representing our wedding style.
