NWR: Metro PCS vs Sprint

Hi Ladies,
I am currently on my Dad's family plan on Sprint.  I am very happy with the service, but feel I should get my own plan now that I am going to be a married lady :-)

My fiance currently has Metro PCS.  I am debating whether to go on a family plan with him or sign up for my own plan on Sprint.

I was wondering what are your experiences with Metro PCS in the Detroit area?  Do you generally get good reception and few dropped/missed calls?
Fiance flashed a droid over to Metro.  I don't know if its his phone or the service, but it seems like 75% of the time I call him it goes straight to voicemail even though the phone is ON!  He does get texts all the time though. This is especially annoying when we split up in the mall and then I cant reach him!!

Wondering if I'd have better luck with Metro if I went with one of their phones or if I should just suck it up and pay the extra $25 a month to stick with sprint!

Thanks!

Re: NWR: Metro PCS vs Sprint

  • Sprint has several different plans.  I finally went with Dan for $99/month.  1500 minutes between us, unlimited texts and calls between us, unlimited to other Sprint customers (my sis and her family is one of them).   We also have unlimited picture messaging.

If you tend to get on the Internet a lot with your phone, you may want to consider adding the data package.  It is supposed to be unlimited.

Also, do you belong to a credit union?  We were able to get 10% off our bill each month.
  • We have sprint, and our neighbors have metro.... We get far better service everywhere we go than our neighbors do. Plus our neighbors phone are always sending duplicate messages and dropping calls.

  • I've heard pretty bad things about Metro PCS's service, they have fewer towers that's why they can offer the price they do.

I personally think sprint is worth it - I use them and have very few complaints about my service (I do hate my phone, but that was my fault for picking a POS to begin with).

  • I've had Sprint for 7 years. Once my phone (only 2.5 years old) eventually breaks I'll switch to AT&T with DH but Sprint has been good to me over the years. I've heard negative reviews of Metro PCS, sorry.

  • Thanks ladies!  I think the extra $$ will be worth it for the more reliable service (we dont have a land line so my phone needs to WORK!)
