I Hate RSVPs (Rant)

So I finally just set the last of my no-responses to "no" on my RSVP list. My RSVP date was June 27th and the RSVPs were supposed to be online, by phone call, text or email (basically however they wanted).

I realized that even with phone calls and emails, there is no point chasing down people at this point. People who haven't booked their tickets by now, aren't suddenly going to do so, especially when they realize that a $700+ plane ticket plus $200+ per night hotels aren't going to fit into their budgets.

I only have 2 more people who are probably "no" that are still on the guest list (why, I don't know, maybe they did buy tickets and didn't tell me). So I guess my decline rate will go from 74% to 76% any day now.

Why did I waste my time and money planning a wedding? I honestly don't know.

33 days until this is all over.

  • I'm sorry to hear that. RSVP's are the worst!!! Destination weddings... even if it's not a destination for you... but for most of your guests are tough. You can't guestimate how many will accept and decline. We are planning a wedding like this too, and even some of the "locals" have declined that we were 99% sure would attend have declined with no resonable excuse. I hope that your wedding is beautiful, and just remember that the 24% of guests that will be there are the ones that are truly special.

I know this, but it's always nice to be reminded by someone outside of the situation. Thank you. :-)

  • That must be so disappointing, I'm sorry.  Just remember that you will still do what you intended to do - get married to your best friend!  Think of it as money in your pocket to spend on the honeymoon/a house/whatever:)

  • I wouldn't just automatically set the RSVPs to no without checking with people.  It is possible that they have booked flights just haven't sent in the RSVP.  Some people are just horribly bad about things like that (I know I am).

I actually have been leaving messages for people since the day after the RSVP date, because my numbers have to be in earlier than most people's (technically, they should have gone in yesterday). People are choosing not to respond. I can't be bothered with them anymore honestly. I've already changed my wedding twice due to low response and now it's even lower than ever. I can't chase after people anymore.

  • I am in the same exact situation so I know how you feel!! It's so discouraging spending all this money so everyone can have a good time and more than half the people aren't even going to come. We will just have to keep reminding ourselves that the people who matter will be there, and lots of extra food for everyone!
