Announcements

We are having a small wedding with immediate family and close friends only.  But I have a HUGE extended family.  So had we had a normal wedding we would have invited all of these people.  Anyways I wanted to just send a wedding announcement with a couple of pictures since I know that they will like to see some... But my question is:  I know these announcements are supposed to go out like a day or two after the actual wedding (or at least that's what I've been reading) how terrible is it if we don't send it until a week and a half to two weeks after the wedding?  The only reason we wouldn't get them out sooner is because we are going to be gone for a week and a half after on our honeymoon....  Is that ok?

Re: Announcements

  • I think it would be fine!
  • You could always have them ready to go and have someone else put the pictures in and mail them for you.  If they're ready to go with the envelopes already addressed (and stamped) and the announcement inside, all they would have to do would be to put the pictures in and seal them.

I could do that... But I hate asking people to help/do anything.  I don't want to be a burden....

If it was me and someone asked me to do it while they were on their honeymoon, I wouldn't hesitate. But I know what you mean about asking for help - I haven't asked for anything this whole time. People volunteered though... it seems like they want to help to do anything to make your day special.

I think that is totally fine! We will be on our honeymoon for two weeks after our wedding and are planning to send something like that to all of our relatives overseas that won't be able to make the wedding when we get back. People know that a lot of couples go away right after the wedding so I'm sure everyone will understand.
  • I'm sure people will understand if you don't send them out right away.  If it were me, my mom would be all over this project b/c she LOVES stuff like that.  Is there anyone you know that would like to do it for you?

  • I think it's totally fine if you send them out a week and a half later. If it were me though, I'd probably ask my parents to send them out for me. I'd pre-address and stamp all the envelopes, prepare the card, etc. My parents would have to print or pick up the pictures, but at least I'd get them out at my ideal time. If you choose to not do this though, I really don't think it's a big deal. Your guests will understand. :)

  • I would totally ask my parents... However my Mom and I rarely speak.  My dad is flaky.  My sister and I don't speak often and is flaky like my dad.  So basically I'm a loner.  I have friends that I could ask and I know would do it.  But I feel guilty in even asking.  That's why if I can wait a week and half to send them out I'd rather do that .... as long as it's not a huge etiquette faux pas.
