September 2012 Weddings

Ugh.......

I have been going to bootcamp religiously every day for a a week and a half... and today, I was running late to get home to get ready for work, so I started jogging across the beach and up the grass... and I friggin tripped on a gopher (or some other rodent) hole and totally jacked up my knee.  It's all swollen and I can't straighten it.

Blah !!!!!!!!!   I spent the past 18 months recovering from a knee injury on the same knee !!!   I need to fluckin work out to lose this damn weight !!

Re: Ugh.......

  • So sorry that happened cmgilin!  Put ice on it ASAP and elevate it if you can.  See a doctor since you've had issues with this knee before they will know what's best.  I hope it's nothing major and you'll be able to work out soon.

You can try to find some new exercises while it's healing or focus on your upper body.

  • Ahhh that totally sucks!  I'm sorry :-(  I feel your pain though...not being able to work out is stressful nevermind with the wedding so close.  Just try to relax...deep breaths and ice ice ice! I would stay off it for a few days...it won't set you back that much and it's better than pushing through the pain which could make it so much worse.  What did you do to your knee the first time?
  • oh no!!! i hope it's nothing major!!

  • My knee is just manufactured from birth wrong !!!   My knee cap rotates at an angle on the outside of my knee, instead of in a straight up/down motion, so when I strain it, it basically pulls the tendons on the back of my knee because my knee cap isn't in the right spot.

I have ice on it now at work, but shitttttt.  This puts a severe damper in my cardio.
  • Eeeeee- ouch, dude. Can you try to do water aerobics or swimming while you rehab? I had a nasty sprain and the swimming helped me stay ontop of my cardio.

I might try to do that. I was trying not to join the gym, since I'm already paying for bootcamp...   but, I may have no choice.  flucking fluck !!!!!
  • I completely understand, I actually have a fake knee due to a really bad injury. Water aerobics and swimming are GREAT for the recovery!
  • Ah that sucks!  Definitely consult your doctor before doing anything since this knee is an ongoing issue.  Trying to push yourself could end up biting you in the a$$ if it causes long term problems.  Ask your doctor specifically about pool workouts.  Also, not that this is fun, but I'd try to just be careful about what you eat (my inclination would be to wallow in ice cream so it won't be easy) just so if you do have to take some time off it isn't so bad.  Also, if you have to rest, take into consideration your body doesn't need as many calories as when you work out daily.  Don't want to sound like a food Nazi, just don't want this to set you back too much but you have to take care of your knee too!
  • thanks everyone.  The doctor basically said that I am going to end up with a knee replacement at some point...  and right now, its a pain management issue. If it hurts, don't do it.  But, it likely won't injure my knee any further.    I just have to ease the pain.

I am being VERY careful about food.  trying to drink lots of water...

Focus on your upper body. Ballet Beautiful has an arm video and abs video you can stream, I think they're $8-10 a piece.  The arm one you definitely could do seated in a chair, the abs one your legs seem to just be in front of you, but if you can't straighten the leg, that could hurt.  I feel absolutely ridiculous doing the arms one, but it's 15 minutes, no weights, and seems to be working.
  • Oh man that really sucks, I'm sorry! I run 4-5 times a week, and my biggest fear between now and the wedding is that I'll somehow hurt my leg/knee/ankle and not be able to run. I hope you have a speedy recovery!

  • That completely sucks!  I hope it heals quickly and you're able to continue on your weight loss track soon.
