Cost of flowers

How much do flowers generally cost for the entire wedding (bouquets, reception and church decor, etc)? I recently went to a wedding, and the bride's parents spend $8000 on the flowers ($70,000 for the entire wedding). My fiance and I want to stick to a $15,000 budget if possible. So I would like to hear what others are paying, and where you are looking to purchase them. The caterer said she will make recommendations once we decide what kind we like. I really have no idea at this point.

It depends what kind of flowers/arrangements you are looking for... if the flower is in season/not, etc.

Well, what all are you looking for? For instance, for $199 you could get:
1 Round Bouquet (24 roses with rhinestones in any colors)
    1 Boutonniere for the groom
2 Bridemaids' Bouquets (roses in any colors)
    2 Boutonnieres for fathers
    2 Corsages for mothers
    1 Throw away bouquet
    1 Tray of Petals

This was just a package that I came across at a bridal show.  There are many options.  I've seen centerpieces range from about $30 to hundreds of dollars.

I paid a little over 900 dollars for mine including delivery and set up.  I had a bouquet of red roses, four hydrangea bridesmaids bouquets, 8 boutonnieres, 2 corsages, 8 centerpieces and 100 red roses that went on the cake.  My florist was wonderful, the flowers looked like a platinum wedding but the cost was not!  Her name is Debbie Robertson with Atmospheres and I highly recommend her.  Most florists will work with whatever budget you give them to try to give you what you want.  If you have a creative florist, they can make it work.  You can choose flowers that are in season or choose arrangements that look amazing but don't use as many flowers or (like I did) choose flowers with large blooms (hydrangeas) so you don't need as many.

You might also want to check out Vicki McCullough at Peddles.  That is who I am using.  She is very reasonably priced and from what I have seen from other brides does great work.  She is able to work within or budget and will also make suggestions for alternatives so that it isn't too expensive.

I'm using InBloom Florist for mine. Not having centerpieces done, but the cost for all of my "personal Flowers" is right around $500. Includes my bouquet, 3 BM bouquets, a FG arrangement, bouts for FI, 2 GM, 2 Dads and 2 grandpas, and wrist corsages for 2 moms and 3 grandmas. They were able to get me higher end flowers (mini calla lillies and orchids) than I was able to afford with Debbie and Vicki.  Their delivery fees were also less. A bunch of my friends have used them and their flowers were all stunning.

Debbie at atmospheres does beautiful work, but I had SERIOUS communication issues with her. (she never sent my proposal, after nagging her for 3 weeks she sent it and it was wrong. then she corrected it and the next day informed me that she was booked for a destination wedding on my wedding day.) I feel like she wasted a ton of my time and 1/2 tank of gas.

Getting married on 11/26 and will post pics to Bio shortly after.

I spent a little over $1,000 on our floral. This included all red rose centerpieces, ceremony decoration, bouquets, & boutonnieres, and Ivory calla lilies wrist corsages and boutonnieres for the parents/ grandparents.
I met with Debbie and didn't feel that I really hit it off with her. I had scheduled an appointment with another florist and told Debbie I was still shopping around. She said I could have until Friday because another bride had contacted her for the same date but then I get an email from her a few days later saying that she booked the other bride and recommended some other florists. I just thought it was totally unprofessional. I ended up going with Carly Ane's Floral Studio. David Baker is really nice and was a blast to work with.
I have some pics in my bio. (See siggy link)

My wedding was around your budget and we saved money on flowers by not using them in our centerpieces. You can do a lot with candles, vases, and submersible led lights. We actually used granny smith apples in a tall vase with submersible led lights and marbles. Apple green happened to be one of our colors so it worked out nicely. I was able to sell the vases and lights so I was only out of pocket the cost of the apples and marbles. Also, instead of corsages we gave the grandmothers a single flower with ribbon- much cheaper than wrist corsages.
