Helicopter ride in St Lucia....

Hello knotties :)

I'm just looking for some reviews for those who have taken the helicopter ride (transfer) from the airport in St Lucia to the Grande.  I'm thinking of surprising my fiance with the ride on our way to the resort ??  The only thing I've heard was that your luggage would come afterwards (which isn't a huge deal)...but how are the views??  Is it worth the couple of extra bucks??

TIA!!

Re: Helicopter ride in St Lucia....

  • I called Sandals on this yesterday because I wanted to also surprise my fiance.  I was quoted $189 a personm and did not know that this "helicopter" takes you to another airport which is 10min away from the resort and than you take a shuttle bus in. That was dissapointing to me!  If you know someone else to book through please let me know!

We are getting married 10-10-10 and our honeymoon 10-11 through 10-18

    Thanks Kristen

  • My TA arranged ours for us and it was under $140 per person

Sandals dosen't have a helipad, so you would have to land at another airport ??

My TA can set it up for around $135 I believe...Did you book with a TA??  If not, just google "st lucia helicopter" and contact them directly

But I checked out tripadvisor, and it seems like everyone that has done it raves about it...

And I'll be there 10/12 through 10/22...maybe I'll cya there!!

Do you post on the October 2010 board at all ??

  • My FI and I are also going to St. Lucia for our honeymoon and we have heard about this helicopter ride option. I've heard that the shuttle from the airport is kinda long. But my FI wasn't thrilled with being in a helicopter (his lil bro was in a plane crash 6yrs ago) he said he wasn't sure about trusting someone in another country to fly him around. Which I dont blame him, so we are just going to go the shuttle route on that one. But my friend did the heli ride and she loved it.

Yeah its definitely a little scary...I was a little hesitant, but we are just going to go for it...Life is short y'know ??  We'll probably never splurge again for a helicopter ride over a Caribbean island...

  • We just booked our trip to St. Lucia yesterday, (10/10 to 10/18!) and we're staying at Jalousie Plantation.  They have their own helipad, so I think I'm going to book the copter ride.  Even though the hotel is only 18 miles from the airport, it takes 1 1/2 hrs by car as opposed to 8-10 minutes by air!  Not sure of the cost yet but at least we'll get there in time for lunch!
  • Yes I think I will go directly to the website and book, it's $145..I am going to book it, yet nervous about finding taxi to take us to the resort~!

If you book though sandals its $189.00 but that includes the shuttle to the hotel...what do you think I should  do?

  • We did the helicopter transfer on the way to the resort with our TA Nancy from Myislandgetaways. It was more expensive through sandals and the cab ride was super cheap and was only about a 8 minute ride. We loved it and saw some great scenery we could have never seen just going by a shuttle.

I would call the place and see about cabs...I'm sure you won't have a problem with transportation from the airport to the hotel!

  • We are going to Sandals in St. Lucia too. We asked our TA about the helicopter ride. She said she would book it for us, but doesnt support it because the helicopter company is not owned or affiliated with Sandals and there is all sorts of insurance and liability things to think about.
