Ceremony Rehearsal and Rehearsal Dinner on Two Different Nights?

I'm getting married on a Sunday, but our rehearsal at the venue is on a Friday night because they have an event on Saturday night. My future in-laws are planning the rehearsal dinner on Saturday night. Wouldn't it be best to just have the dinner on Friday since everyone is already together?

Yes, it's definitely best to have the dinner the same night.

  • Both on the same night is best.

  • The purpose of the rehearsal dinner is to thank those involved in the wedding ceremony and for their time spent at the rehearsal itself. It's supposed to follow the actual rehearsal, as it's custom to serve dinner after the rehearsal for all those who are involved. It can be anything from pizzas and beers to a backyard BBQ to a fancy restaurant. All that matters is that those involved in the ceremony and rehearsal are invited to the dinner immediately following.
  • You need to move one or the other.  If for some reason you can't have the dinner on Friday night, move the rehearsal to Saturday right before the dinner and hold it somewhere other than your venue (people do this all the time, it'll be fine).  Or just don't have a rehearsal, and then you don't have to worry about a dinner.
