yes video? or no video?

I'm having a hard time decideing if hiring a videographer is really worth it considering that the video company I want to hire is about $2.000.  yes I know there are other places that can provide a lower cost, however, I want a cinematic style & I don't know any other company that can go lover than this price. truthfully, I'll watch the video about 2-3 times but I also know that I have something tangible in my hand. 

 so brides, did you REGRET not getting a video?  or was this something you were able to cut out of your budget and be OK with it?

    i dont regret it...only because i know id never watch it. although, i had no idea they can do some of the stuff they do these days and it's pretty freaking awesome.

    I haven't gotten married yet so I can't speak as to my own regrets, but this weekend I was talking to a friend who mentioned that he and his wife really regret not doing video. He said that they hadn't even thought about it at the time, and even if they only watched it once or twice it would have been nice to have.

    But, they also had a horrible experience with the photographer, who was a "family friend" who offered to "help." Apparently, they got no pictures from the rehearsal dinner or reception, and the photog peaced out after taking a dozen (literally, 12) posed shots of the bridal party in the church. So they really have very little "tangible" memories from the day. 

    As it gets closer, if the budget gets tight I think videography would be something I'd nix pretty easily, but I'm going to plan on having it for now... the wedding videos I've seen from recent weddings have been pretty heart-wrenching, and I bet it would be something kind of neat to watch on anniversaries, eventually show your kiddos, or whatever. 

    From what I've heard from friends, you probably won't miss video if you are happy with your pictures, though.

    I agree with SMN272, if closer to your date, budget gets tight then videography should be dropped off the list.  I think I would focus on making sure that your photographer is on point & will produce those tangibles you need (pictures instead of video).

    Thanks all!  yeah I am really on the fence w/ the video.  It is pretty awesome to have.  I think as the time gets closer it will be a last min. decision.  I keep going back and forth b/c it will be nice to look back in a couple of years but then again 2,000 is steep.  my photographer is awesome and I have no doubt in her.  I always wonder why everyone has no problem putting out $$ for the photog. but when it comes to video we become slightly more cautious.  they are both a work of "art" and both will describe and tell your personal story.

    We got the video and I am really glad we did. We also went for cinematic style instead of just a cheesy music video and so far are really impressed with our videographer (Dustin Stelly - Stelly Weddings). We actually upgraded to the better package a few weeks before the wedding because we knew we would want to cherish the emotions, words and reactions of people there, not just still images. 

    Do it!! Its money now but memories forever :). You miss so much when its your own wedding, I can't wait to see our final product, I'm sure I will see things I didn't even know happened.

    I was considering a videographer but found that the better ones, the ones that are not as cheesy carry a hefty price.  Not sure what we will do but good to see that there are definite pros.

    I haven't gotten married yet BUT if you can afford video, I would definately get it! You may not watch it too much after a while, but I feel like it is such a great keepsake for your kids one day, and pictures are great, but to have audio will be amazing. So, if you can fit it in, I would get it!

    who are you looking at to video it? I have come across a few who have great prices. I also have some friends from school who started doing video/photo about a year ago if you want their info, just message me.

    We got married Sept 2011 and I think VIDEO is a must, it's something you can watch back, share with your children, it's not the same as pictures in my opinion.

    We decided not to do it because we were already getting a photographer. It makes sense if you are having family that cannot be there on your wedding day but otherwise, I think it is a waste of your budget.

    Use your money on something else.  I just don't see the point of a video that more than likely will just have dust on it.  Just my opinion.
