Day of Coordinator?

So I've been trying to decide if i need a doc for my wedding...at first i thought the idea was silly but now I'm starting to second guess that.  What are some people's opinions on the benefits of having a doc, and does anyone have any reccomendations for someone in the northern jersey area? tia!

We didn't have one and everything went off very smoothly the day of.  I felt there was no need for one as we had a maitre d at the venue that took care of everything for us.  He was amazing.     Just to note that we had our ceremony and reception at the same place.    A doc would have been a waste of money for us.

I agree with PP. If you have a Maitre D then you dont really need a DOC. My ceremony and reception are at the same location as well. If this is not the case for you, then i guess you might need one.

we have a maitre d at our reception but we are having a church ceremony. i was more concerned about making sure the limos were on time to pick us up and the flowers were at the hotel when they were supposed to, etc. I'm a planner and i like things done right and i usually do them myself, but i wasnt sure if i wanted to be dealing with that the day of my wedding!

You should have times in your contract for when the vendors should be at your house with these things. Build in a little padding time and make sure you arrive on time for your beauty appointments and such, and you shouldn't have a problem.

I mean, if you want to hire a DOC then by all means do it. But honestly if you have these times built into your contract, and if you and your bridesmaids do everything you're supposed to do on time, then I don't really see why you'd need a DOC.

Like PPs said, the maitre d' and DJ at our reception kept things flowing smoothly. Before the ceremony, the florist and limo and makeup artist arrived when we had contracted them to, my BMs and family were on time for everything, and we got to the church with maybe 15 minutes to spare.

I hired a full planner to help me with everything, but she was there on the day of as well.  For us, it was really important to have someone there on the day because I didn't want to have to worry about anything and I didn't want to have my bridesmaids running around doing a ton of stuff either (I wanted them their with me having fun).
We had the ceremony at the church and then the reception 30 blocks away in the city, so the coordination of the limos and buses was essential!  If that's what you are needing, then I think it's important to hire someone who has experience in that area.  I just didn't want to have to worry about the stress and details on the day, so I hired Sara Kate Events.  I highly recommend them!  And I believe that she offers a few options for the day of, especially if you have a Maitre D' to take care of things at the reception.
    Good luck!

I hired a planner only because I didn't want to deal with any headaches the day of. I was in a wedding that had a DOC when one of the GM's bouts fell apart. The DOC took care of calling the florist and getting a new one delivered, the bride never knew about it.
Also, from my understanding a Maitre D' is there to take care of the bride and groom but more importantly to make sure that the service is running smoothly. I wanted someone there just for me. To help me with my dress at the church, to make sure all the guys were in the right spots, and to make sure my reception room was set up correctly.
I'm using Cindy from All About You Events and so far I love her. She's been there to answer all my crazy questions and she's come up with some great ideas for me to use. www.AllAboutYouEventsNJ.com

I had partial planning and the DAY OF done by my wedding planner and I definitely don't regret hiring one.  I felt that since my wedding was planned for many months and so much time, money and effort was involved, I didn't want some silly things ruined it.  It was totally worth the investment we made hiring a planner.  Check out www.eventremembered.com, they have an event planner, Evgenia, she is pretty cool and did an amazing job with everything we hired her for.  I think she is on the vendors list on the Knot as well.

We are having a "wedding weekend" coordinator and she's been great in suggestions and just keeping me organized already. I really didn't want any "tasks" to fall on our family or friends on the wedding day so having a go-to person will help. My sister didn't have one and my poor mom nearly went crazy running around doing things that a DOC could have done.
