NWR: Netbooks- Thoughts and opinions?

Who has one? What do you use it for? What kind and what price range did you pay? Are you satisfied with it?

I am thinking of just getting a Netbook for my grad school homework (word, excel) and internet use instead of getting a laptop. DH has a laptop and I have a Mac at my mom's (shared- but she's kind of taken it over... plus it's not that great with Microsoft programs that I need for school). So, I don't need it for much else than internet and microsoft programs...

Just wanted your thoughts on them and if it's worth it! TIA

I love my netbook, I got it for grad school. It's an Acer, and we got it at Costco so I think it was about $250. A friend just got one with the "Microsoft 7 Starter" and had to buy the whole program since the "starter" only lasts for a while. Mine has XP. I totally love it and can't imagine not having it.

I loove my netbook! I got it just for documents and internet (FI has a desktop for anything I need to store).
I have an HP and I have had no problems with it so far, I think I paid about $350 for it at BestBuy last year!

I love the concept of netbooks, but have not been happy with the performance.

    1.  Type on them!  Only a select few had keyboard and mouse controls that i liked
    2.  The processers are not that fast.  They can do things one at a time but not good at multitasking, they bog down, esp with graphics and video.  I am waiting for the next generation processors to come out.
    3.  You most likely have to expand the ram to 2 gigs (they all come with 1 gig pretty much)
    4.  Make sure you get the 6 cell (min) battery
    5.  There is really no good operating system for them yet.  google Chrome is supposedly coming out with one, but it's not out yet.  I refuse to pay money to get XP, and windows 7 starter is a sham filled with limitations.  You can't even change your background colors or picture, and can only use like 3 programs at a time.

Just know what you are getting into.  I think a 13" notebook with a decent processer would be more useful (maybe not as portable)
