Out of the Box Dessert Recs?

Hi Knotties (and congrats/welcome to new brides!) FI & I are trying to think of a fun, different dessert for our August wedding. We originally wanted to have a small cake just for cutting made in replication of the dessert we had the night we got engaged (chocolate espresso torte with rasperryyyyum). We want to surprise our guests with something different, besides cake. I got quotes from Sloan's (astronomical) and Donut Divas (reasonable, but she quote d me for funnel cake and nothing else...no menu or anything to choose from). I emailed Gelato Grotto today, but are there any Palm Beach/Broward vendors you can think of that do something fun and different for dessert? Or should I just go the traditional route and have a cake (which is the least expensive by far)?

  • We're doing a little cake and then shot glass desserts.  I am not sure of where to go to because our Caterer does everything. (Truly amazing for the price.)

  • Cold stone creamery will cater and do an ice cream bar.
  • I'm thiinking of a candy bar with ice cream and cupcakes on it.  My venue suggested it and will handle it for us.  I haven't decided for sure yet, but I really like the idea
  • Check out sweetescapecakes.com I saw a living social deal going on for them now.....they do dessert/candy tables I personally don't know anything about them, but I thought it looked pretty cool and it is worth checking out at least
  • What about cake pops? Or cake push pops (like the old school ice cream things where you pushed it up as you ate)? I've never tried them, but Suckers for Dessert in Coral Springs has both (and I think for reasonable prices- if they're still open, I haven't checked it out in a while).
A Viennese dessert bar (where you have a ton of different mini-desserts laid out on cool platters & cake stands)? Almost any bakery could help with this.
I think everyone loves Coldstone, and maybe they'd be willing to have a special mix that would be you & your FI's wedding ice cream. You two could pick the flavor & mix-ins- kinda like a signature drink, but with ice cream!
What about a cupcake tower? Sugar Chef in West Palm has the most AMAAAAZING cupcakes (and will customize the flavors, filling & icing for you with any special order of 3 dozen or more) and I've seen photos of their cakes- oh my holy cow- she is the Cake Boss of SoFla!
A cookie bar could be tons of fun, you could have classic cookies, you & your FI's favs & then a sugar cookie decorating station- I know a lot of adult who'd get waaaaay too into that, especially after a drink or two. lol
I think anything you'd have as a dessert could be turned into a fun treat for your wedding guests, the trick will be connecting with a baker/bakery willing to put your vision into reality- without charging a ridiculous amount! GL!
  • Thanks girls, these are amazing suggestions! And LaMaFa, I lie awake at night in Chicago missing Sugar Chef cupcakes lol! But I love the different dessert buffet options you mentioned, the cake push pops sound really really cool and I have lots of new inquiries to make :)
  • One last suggestion would be cake pop seating cards. SavvyLicious Sweets in Miami Beach are making mine. They'll be a groom and a bride variety. Each pop will have a bling stick. And they also make the cake push treats. Did I forget to tell you how yummy they are and how nice Ana is? Hope that helps you

  • We're using Sweeter Days Bakery and their product is phenomenal!!! They're making us a small cake to cut, and then varied flavor cupcakes for guests. You could also consider mini pies or tarts (fruit, fudge, etc.).
  • I wish I could "like" these suggestions! Thank you again!
