Florida-South Florida

Freaking out! What would you do?

Fiance and I are getting married on the beach on May 29th on Little Palm Island near Key West.  I'm watching/reading very closely the reports that this STUPID oil slick from the Gulf Coast oil rig explosion could potentially be in the Keys & all of South Florida within weeks or even days.  At this point, all the scientists are saying it's not a matter of "if", it's a matter of when.

To say that I am worried would be putting it mildly.  I am sick over this.  What if the beach is covered in oil in 3 weeks?  We have deposits down, contracts signed, guests that have made travel arrangements etc, etc.  Fiance says I should talk to our wedding planner at the resort if I'm concerned.  At this point, I don't even know what to ask her!!!  I'm sure she doesn't know anymore than I know from reading news reports.

I'm trying to think of a backup plan, but I'm so overwhelmed I don't even know what to do.  Fiance says to stay positive and he's totally annoyed with me for freaking out like this.  I just cannot believe this could be happening.

awww! sorry that you're going through this...At this point, the only thing you can do is secure a solid back up plan that you'll be comfortable with. I know no one  wants to resort to plan B but the most important thing is that you'll be married to the man of your dreams...even if it means having to resort to plan B...Either way, I am sending you tons of knottie vibes and hugs so that everything works out for the best.

    xoxo

I really think that is not going to happen, or I hope it won't anyway! Get the facts from trusty sources, sometimes the news make things bigger than they really are. I live in Mobile, AL we are REALLY close to the spill, I hear they are working 24/7 on this and some solutions are coming to the table. So best of luck! they wont be able to go IN the beach but you can still have your wedding there,  if anything happens.

I think FI has the right idea and that you should talk to the on-site coordinator and see what they have come up with- I'm sure they either have an action plan or are trying to put on in place.

What is your backup plan for rain? This might be your best bet in the instance that the oil does make it onshore in the Keys.

I would be freaking out also~ I'm a worrier... BUT there is only a slim chance of this happening.  The weather this week for the gulf is very favorable and there is no real movement of the slick today according to the news.  They dont expect much movement except towards the coast it's closest to for the next day or two.  Also, Gov. Christ proclaimed a state of emergency all along the gulf coast and the keys just in case, which means hopefully they will put up barriers out at sea to keep it at bay if it does head down here.  All you can do is firm up your rain plan (or plan B) so that you know in worse case scenario you guys will be ok and cross your fingers.  We will all be doing the same~

Thank you all so much.  The wedding coordinator didn't have much to add, except to say "let's hope it doesn't come here".  She sent me something from the Keys Tourism Board that they're handing out to all the hotels.  It's basically just a Q&A about the Gulf Loop and when/how quickly the oil could get here.  I guess right now it's just a waiting game.  I don't like waiting.

I am sorry you are dealing with this, but even if it does come over, try not to freak out.  Little Palm Island is GORGEOUS! Guests can enjoy the resort and the pool ... Even though it does totally suck that you might not be able to emjoy all the activites the Keys has to offer, there will still be alot of things you can do that are not affected by the ocean, especially considering the state is taking preventive measures to control the situation.  GL! And do keep us posted!

=/ totally bummy!!! but theres always solutions to problems! (or potential problems)(or things that may not even become problems lolol) which side is little palm island on the gulf or atlantic.  that could make a difference.  Also like PP said, talk to the coordinator, I'm sure they will have a backup plan for you.  Not to mention Im sure they know how to handle "freaking brides" so dont feel any kind of way about calling her.  Just say, you heard about the oil spill, the news mentioned it possibly coming to the keys.  What has she heard? & if its true whats plan B. just make sure you have a plan B!!! =) GL let us know what happens
