Where to look for a wedding gown?

I live in New York and am getting married in Maine, but my mom lives in DC (Georgetown) and really wants me to come looking for a dress down here. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to look? I don't have a ton of money to spend on the dress (about $1,000) so I didn't want to go to the super-swanky-looking places in Georgetown.  TIA!

If you do not mind going to suburban Maryland, try Bridal Images in Rockville, MD
they have a ton of dresses and even sample gowns for the price range you requested.  The consultants really know their styles and can help you out a lot

    Good luck!

I actually had a terrible experience at Bridal Images in Rockville when I accompanied a friend, but that was also 7 years ago... it was bad enough that I didn't go back to look for my own dress.

If you decide to hit up Rockville though, I found mine at I Do I Do Bridals, which is very near Bridal Images. They have both consignment and new gowns, and I found one that was incredibly unique and so gorgeous, and only $700 - we ended up getting the veil, dress and tiara all from there. My friend who had the bad experience at Bridal Images also got her gown from I Do I Do.

And, Bridal Images, I Do I Do and a David's Bridal are all within 10 min drives of each other in Rockville... so it's a great area to utilize.

    In NYC, Bridal Garden.
    Google it up.

Many brides have found once worn or sample dresses from Vera Wang & such for huge % off.

    Including me  ;)

    Good luck!

If you don't mind a drive to Leesburg, VA,  I found my dress at Leesburg Bridal for under $1000 among many beautiful choices!  They were really friendly and didn't give me the bug-eyed look for having a budget.  Old town Leesburg is cute as well, you could make an afternoon of it with your mom and have lunch in town - Tuscarora Mill is one of my favorites (their main restaurant is in an old mill which is really neat) but there are lots of unique places to grab a bite!

If you want to venture to Virginia then try Maria's Bridal Designs: 9858A Main Street (Fairfax Square), Fairfax, VA 22031. It's a small boutique but have some really pretty dresses. I went there last week and the lady was very helpful and asked me about my budget. I tried on dresses that were over my budget, but she was willing to work with me to keep me within my budget. I would suggest calling to make an appointment because they do get busy.

Just don't go to Ellie's in Alexandria. They have affordable dresses, but they were horrible to me when I went there (Long story short, I had made an appointment. I got there, alone, and there was this huge party there-- think something you'd see in a reality show. There was one lady in the store, and she told me that she couldn't help me bc she was alone there and helping the other bride. You know ,teh one who'd had the same dress on for 20 minutes and was debating all the pros and cons with her 25 closest friends. She told me I could try on dresses alone, though. Yeah super easy to do. So I left and didn't go back).

I got my dress at Hitched in Georgetown, and I had a great experience, but I had a bit more to spend. I'm not sure what their dresses start at, though.

I second I Do I Do.  They had lots of gowns under $100 and the staff was great!

Blush Bridal has dresses under $1000. Mine was a bit more, but I tried on dresses in all different price points. They aren't pushy and they don't just push the more expensive dresses. Check them out!

@ Lulu You are not the only one that that happen to at Ellie's. I would not send anyone there to get a dress. The service SUCKS plus it is dirty!

I got my dress from Love Couture Bridal in Potomac and they have dresses in various price range. They are GREAT!!!!!

if you don't mind heading up 270, i would recommend TLC Bridal in Frederick, MD.  i had a really good experience there, and you definitely won't get the side eye for having a realistic budget.  plus, if you do end up getting your dress there, you should get a coupon for $100 off accessories in the mail a few weeks later...

I'm kind of surprised to hear the previous review about I Do I Do. I went there and the consultant was terrible, and there wasn't a dress in the store under $400. Not that that's a terrible price range, but they either didn't have a dress under that price point, or the saleslady neglected to tell me about them. (I told her my budget, and she said there was no way I'd be able to find a gown for that low.)
