When to send thank you for somewhat complicated gift delivery..

An very generous family member bought quite a few of the larger furniture-type items off our registry (C&B). These items apparently come from a separate warehouse, and they only ship every couple of weeks. There were some address issues I had to work out with the company and now it looks like everything won't be delivered until at least a month after the wedding.

My question is- do I still wait until I receive the gifts to send a thank you? I don't want them to think that I am forgetting, as it is such an incredibly generous gift, but they purchased it a few weeks ago and it will be a month or more before I actually receive the items.

Thanks for the help!

Re: When to send thank you for somewhat complicated gift delivery..

  • Will you be seeing them in person anytime soon? I'd give them a verbal thank you in the meantime, and fill them in on the shipping info if they're wondering why you haven't received the piece yet. Then send a formal thank you when it's shipped so you can say how much you love the piece in your home or something :)
  • I would love to do that but unforunately they live in another state...part of the reason I believe the shipping was more complicated.

Would it be appropriate to mention it at the wedding perhaps when we see them? Or send them an e-mail beforehand...or have our parents let them know somehow?

Then we will definitely send a formal thank you when it arrives! I'd just like them to know it's all in transit somehow!
  • Hmm, in that case I might go ahead and send a note saying something like "We are so grateful for your generous gift, and can't wait for it's arrival. Looking forward to seeing you at the wedding!" Then send another when it arrives.

Or just talk to them at the wedding - I'm sure they understand that shipping and delivering furniture can be a pain, so don't stress too much over it :)
