Groomsmen ties?

I need some advice about the color of ties for the groomsmen.  My dress is ivory.  The bridesmaids are wearing blue dresses (they picked their own).  The groomsmen are wearing charcoal grey suits.  I'm incorporating peacock feathers subtly; that was my inspiration.

I was thinking of having the groomsmen wear ivory shirts and blue ties and my FI wearing a subtly striped blue tie that matched.  Any other suggestions of what might look good?

My mom is wearing a deep midnight blue dress and I was thinking of having my dad wear a silver shirt and tie.  My MIL has not picked her dress yet but I was thinking deep purple or emerald green.  What do you think?  What color should my FIL wear?

Thank you for your advice.

Re: Groomsmen ties?

  • I used an Etsy.com seller for our groomsmen's ties, and both FI and I really love them: http://www.etsy.com/search_results_shop.php?search_query=blue&search_type=user_shop_ttt_id_5798070

Let your parents and in-laws pick out their own attire. They are not part of the wedding party so you should not be telling them what colors to wear. Only suggest something if they ask, and even then don't push it too much. The main thing is that their outfits/colors flatter THEM, not that they perfectly match your color scheme.

  • I just want to let you know that ivory can vary widely.  Unless you have a sample of your dress color to take and pick out the GM shirts, I would suggest letting the guys wear white shirts.  Unless your dress is a dark ivory you won't be able to tell the difference (look in my married bio if you want to see an ivory dress with white shirts).

  • Ivory vs white shirts is another story all together...everyone said that if I wore ivory the groomsmen should all wear ivory or my dress will look dirty...
  • That's not true about the ivory vs. white. Your dress won't look dirty compared to a white shirt. There's no need for your FI and GMs to wear ivory just because you are. And honestly, because "ivory" is different to every manufacturer, the ivory they get could look terrible on them. And with the men wearing a gray suit, I really think that white is just going to look so much nicer than an ivory. White is classic, and looks good with everything.

As for the ties, that sounds good. Blue would look nice against the gray suit, and should pop out nicely.
  • I am getting my ties from Lumina Clothing Co. out of Raleigh. You should look them up, they do custom ties and bow ties for weddings.

My dress is ivory and all the boys are wearing white shirts. I bought their ties at  Dessy because I couldnt find what I wanted at the tux shop.
Personally I think white will look much better with the grey suits.
