View of Skyline?

We're looking for a venue that has a great view of the skyline, something like a penthouse or the top of a hotel or a cool loft. We considered Adler and Shedd for the view, but I'd like to be closer to the Loop so my guests will have a great "city" feeling (many of them are coming from remote areas where they don't get to see skyscrapers very often).

Re: View of Skyline?

  • The view from Adler & Shedd is personally my favorite! When you are downtown it's hard to get the full city view because you are sourdounded by building.

How big of a wedding are you looking to have?
  • We're inviting around 100 guests. I thought it would be neat to have a view of the river, or something similar to the view from the Hancock Bldg.

I like the idea of Adler or Shedd because you get the great view (and parking is available), so I'm kind of torn.
  • Check out the MIllenium Park rooftop terrace, if you're plannng during the warmer months.  I work at a University, and we did an event there in April under the tent, with outdoor heaters and it was just fine!

I dont think you can get a better view than Adler or the Shedd.

But I think the Mid America club is at the top of the Aon building.

We had our wedding in the ballroom on the 15th floor at the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza, which has amazing views of the loop and the river: www.martplaza.com

But Hotel 71 http://www.hotel71.com/default-en.html also has some fantastic views of city, and the Renaissance has a really cool outdoor skyline terrace http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/chisr-renaissance-chicago-downtown-hotel/
  • A friend of mine is having her wedding at the Grand Piazza/Italian American Hall of Fame in Little Italy. Check out their website for a link to pictures of weddings there:

  • I agree with PP about the views from Adler and Shedd. I work in a building near the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza would definitely recommend it for the views. That Holiday Inn was also featured on an episode of Four Weddings

  • I just wanted to point out that your guests will have to pay for parking.  Even if they're from nowheresville, they might be irked paying $30+ for parking just to see a skyscraper.  Something to keep in mind.
  • Prepare to spend a bundle for the Adler. It's 5,000 dollars for a four hour event. 500 for every extra hour and another 100 for insurance. It's a beautiful place but expensive.
  • We had our reception at the Peninsula - we had use of both the ballroom and the outdoor terrace and it was perfect.  Amazing city views.

  • Our wedding was at the Adler. There is no better view of the city. We had many people coming from out of town so we grabbed a hotel block on the mag mile, set our guests up with city tours, had our rehearsal dinner on rush and when the buses were taking guests from the hotel we had the drivers do a mini-tour of the city. They all talked about how much they loved being in the city but how much they adored the Adler. We also had the most amazing su set. People have used pics from our wedding, with the skyline as their Christmas cards.

  • Do you want to be "in" the city or look at the skyline from nearby?
