Too early to plan a wedding for next year?

Hey knotties! I'm a Seattle bride and planning on getting married next August (2012). I was thinking about having my ceremony at a Catholic church and a luau afterwards. Since it's a destination wedding we only have immediate family and close friends coming (less than 40). What do you guys think? Too early to plan or should I wait a couple months?

I don't think you can ever plan too early, the earlier you start the better everything will be and the less stressed you will be. I started planing 2.5 years before the wedding and started booking vendors as soon as i could which was about a year and a half before. Good luck and happy planning :)

I don't think it's too early.  At the very least, you can begin preparing your Save the Dates so that people can start saving for travel.  Those generally go out 6-9 months before the wedding, or up to 1 year.  It's always nice to get your major vendors out of the way (venue, photo/video, food).  The rest falls into place pretty quickly after that.

    Welcome to the board!

I also think it's never too early to get everything set up and ready to go. The more time you allow your guests to plan, the better.

    Never too early.
We got engaged in February and started planning the DW in April. So glad we did. Life just got a lot busier and I would be crazy with stress if we did have as much done as we do now.

katie - just as a suggestion.  If your SN is your real name, you may want to create a new screen name and come back.  First name, last name, city, and FI's first name all together can let people find a lot about you.  I'm not too worried about the gals on this board, but it's still the Internet so you never know...

First my wedding is in June of 2012 and I started planning in April.  At least the big things like Tanq said.

Secomd I woud think that changing your SN would be a good idea as well.  Good luck on your planning.  This board is full of great advice and ideas!

I agree. Never too early! I started planning this past June for our December 2012 wedding! If you want first dibs on the best vendors, better to plan earlier than later, right? :) Congrats and happy planning!

Totally agree...NEVER to early.  Your vision can change, other life events can get in the way of planning and you can book your first choice vendors and usually lock them in at their current rate...big plus! HTH! J. :-)

I don't think it's too early either to start getting some ideas, but from my experience I would recommend spreading things out. I started 1.5 years in advance and I have pretty much all of it planned now and have 8 months left. Now I'm starting to feel a little disengaged from it. Although I am trying to fill in the time with some DIY projects to keep motivated.

It's never too early. I got engaged in 2009 and started the planning process for a April 2012 wedding. Most of my vendors are already booked and have been for at least 6 months now. So now I just sit back and relax :)

I would suggest starting now as August seems to be one of the busiest months and your guests may need to put in vacation requests with work in advance.

Definitely not too early.  We were engaged in March and started planning right away for our wedding next May(2012).  Even then, some of the venues we looked at were already booked up for our date.

Also we're finding out that our initial budget was not very realistic so planning early and getting quotes will give us enough time to save the extra money we need:)
