How much did you pay for his ring?

My guy wants a plain platinum band that costs $2000.  That seems to be pretty high for a wedding band?

I have only priced bands but they were priced btw $79-$250 that was for Tungsten or Titanium.  One can't be engraved but both are hard metals.

Wow....That does seem a little high to me!  We only spent like $250 on FI's band (but it's not platinum either) and that included the insurance, too!  He just wanted a small plain band..nothing fancy.  He really doesn't wear jewelry, so it will take some getting used to just to wear the little bit that it is!

I thought somewhere in the less than $500 range would be the norm.  The one he wants is from Tiffanys so I worry the cost is for the name brand.  Im frugal so spending that much on a plain band just seems a little crazy to me. Money mouth

Oh I would definitely say that is for the name brand. I think DH's was $250 and we got it on sale for $199. His is a plain white gold band with milgrain detail around the edges.

Dang that is an expensive ring!!!!

We got our bands at Diamonds Direct in Raleigh.

His band was around $750 or so. I think my band was $500.

Make sure your guy gets the comfort fit band!

DH's was around 400? It was a Scott Kay from Jareds out of his new line. . I've forgotten what the name of the metal is, but it too is a hard metal and if we ever wanted it engraved, it'd have to be sent to Scott Kay or if it needs to be resized or replaced it goes back to Scott Kay.  - this is not a plain band, it had some design to it, but not too fancy -

2G's is a LOT for a plain band. You're def paying for name brand there.

You may be paying a bit for the name brand but a lot of that price is just because it's platinum.  How many mm wide is the ring he wants?

Jared carries some plain platinum bands in different widths, you may be able to check there for a comparable price.

Mary, you're completely right. I over looked that. Thinking back my sisters XH got a platinum plain band for around 2,000. We thought he was crazy because A. They didn't have the money for that and B, he's worse than kids with misplacing things (which he ultimatly did and didnt have insurance on it soooo no ring for him)

Width will change prices a good deal and I *think* comfort fit can cause a price difference (DH got this though and he loves it!)

I got a plain white gold band 2mm from Jareds - 80 bucks
the 3 mm I was looking at, again plain, would have ran me 150 or so at that time.

Platinum is very expensive, I think that, and the name is making the price so much. Do tell your FI that platinum scratches very easily. My first ring was platinum, and I hated it... I was always having to take it in to get it polished, and in the store they weren't able to get it back to looking as good as it did when we got it. To do that, it would have to be sent off to their corporate office or wherever and it would take a week to get back.

I really don't suggest that metal for a ring, espeically not a guys ring with as soft as the metal is.

boy, someone has expensive tastes and likes to buy from expensive places. rain him in and have him do some price comparisons.

tell him he can get the same 6mm ring at blue nile for 400-600 cheaper and probably won't have to pay sales tax.

Our rings are made out of palladium...just guessing on the spelling.

I think DH's is palladium.  It's Scott Kay and was approx. $600 from Diamond's Direct in Raleigh.

DH's ring is tungsten and it was $300 with a lifetime warranty. We purchased it from the same local shop he got my engagement ring & where I purchased my bands, Babb's Jewelry.

That seems expensive, but honestly for platinum and the Tiffany's brand it's probably about right.  We paid around $750 for DHs white gold band, so I would imagine that if it was in platinum it would be about double that.  Men's rings are usually much bigger and thicker and can be very expensive because they just have so much metal in them, especially if you're doing platinum.

For reference, here's a very simple mens wedding band in platinum at Zales... $1500, so the 2k Tiffany's doesn't seem like it's out of no where.  http://www.zales.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2484010

</div><div>I second this.  Platinum is notoriously bad about scratching.  I personally don't think it's a good metal for something that is going to be worn every day and don't really understand why they make wedding bands out of platinum.

Can someone explain the "comfort fit" thing?  We just started looking at guys' bands and I haven't heard that come up...

wow, that is expensive taste....we only spent $300-$400 on DH.

    tiffany's is overrated....shop around.

Thanks for all the info!!  I'm hoping I can find something at least in the $1k range.  I also didnt realize that platinum gets scuffed up so easily.  He got my ring from Tiffany's so I don't think I can say no if he is really stuck on the name brand (he is kinda into nice things, much more so than me). There are other options at Tiffanys that are much more reasonable. I'm going to try to steer him that way.

Evidently the space on a guy's hand where the ring sits is shaped a little differently than the same space on a female.  A "comfort fit" band is designed to fit that space better.  It's a different shape on the inside of the ring. (or so I've been told)

I second the idea about Blue Nile (if he's intent on Platinum.) I found an identical band to the one FI said he liked for $1000 cheaper.

Doesn't gold scuff easily too because it's so soft?

$100 for DH's titanium ring (which we had engraved). It was a win-win: looks like white gold or platinum, very very lightweight, and inexpensive.

Try going to Diamond's Direct in the South Park Mall area in Charlotte. All their rings are beautiful and handsome.lol And great deals too. That is where I got my engagement ring and where we will get out bands too

My FI picked out a band at helzburg's that was this new material called cobalt which isn't suppose to scratch at all. They said it was good for men that use their hands a lot at work. I am not sure who else carries this material but you can look around. The one he picked out was $475, which isn't too bad.
