September 2012 Weddings

Check! (and a little guilty...)

So the room blocks are officially set! He added a few extras rooms for us. And if 8 rooms are booked then we get a night free =)

Now on to the guilty part. =( So we bought a band for me off of Etsy a couple of months ago. I LOVE it, I really do, but it doesn't match my e-ring well in terms of shininess and such. So I didn some research and it probably will never match up right and it will break down quickly so it won't last long with everyday wear. Boo.

Well, I could put up with it, but I know once the wedding day comes, I'm going to have a crazy emotional attachment to my wedding band (I cried one day when I thought I had lost my e-ring. lol!). I don't want to get attached for it to get beaten up in 5 years. Sooo... apparently I have to get a palladium band to match my palladium e-ring.

They are more expensive than I'd like. I did find one that looks great and is the cheapest with being plain (FI refuses to buy a plain band because my e-ring would look better with a design). It's a little over $300 though. =( FI says it's fine but I feel so bad!

Has anyone had to get a whole different ring? Make me feel better! lol

Re: Check! (and a little guilty...)

  • I have totally had to get a whole different ring! No worries, there. I don't even wear my original e-ring except for formal occasions. My original e-ring was his grandmother's from the 40's. We didn't want to pay a ton of money to have a band created to fit around it's particularly rectangular and large head. So we went searching for something else that might act as an e-ring/band. We found the perfect set in an antique store for $250!! It's rare to find an antique wedding ring that has the band with it as well. Don't feel guilty at all.
  • FI and I are doing titanium bands since he does manual labor a lot. His is matching mine except the center of my band will have mother of pearl all around. When searching for bands I kept him in mind since of the nature of his job. My band won't match my e-ring but I am completely okay with that. For me each ring holds a special meaning on the day they were given. So you be alright with different rings, it's what they represent is important.

Congrats on getting the rooms booked. I am so glad that is settled off my checklist as well too.

  • I think its fine! Don't feel too bad! It's not like you can't ever wear the band from etsy. Does it fit on the ring finger on your right hand (mine unforutunately are an almost an entire size off :/) ? Or switch it up some days and just wear that band without your engagement ring. I'm getting a band that matches my engagement ring, but I'm also getting a claddagh to wear sometimes and also a plain band to match FI's. Wedding bands everywhere!!!

  • I think it is fine too!  The style of my two rings match but the finish is off a little.  But I love them both just the same.  FI's ring was actually 6 times the cost of mine!  It was unique (as is his sense of style) so we could not walk away from it.  He is however a strength and conditioning coach and cant wear a ring while he works.  The idea that this expensive ring would be on and off his finger freaked me out (he has a tendency to misplace things...usually finds them but not always) so we got him a MUCH cheaper tungsten band.  We also are waiting right now for a chain to come in for him so he can put his ring on it and wear it around his neck when he works.  He's the type where everything has to match (this guy owns more sunglasses than anyone I know and sooo many shoes) so he's going to alternate his rings.  Don't have the logistics set yet, but we know we are going to include both rings in the ceremony somehow (probably put the expensive one on him in a traditional way and have the cheaper one on his right hand or on the chain).  I say include both and then they are both your wedding band and important to you and change them up as you wish.
  • i am in the process of ordering a new ring right now.

back when dan bought my e-ring, there was a matching band, but it was discontinued in like november. so i figured i'd just pick out something similar from the same place. we ordered it, and when i got it, it was not what i was expecting at all! it's so small, you can barely tell there are diamonds in it. i want to return it but we haven't yet.

but i feel terrible just sending back and forth all of these expensive things! like what if something gets lost in the mail? anyway, dan called the company he bought my ring from, mentioning the discontinued one, and they said they have a few still in stock, but it's a final sale, so i have to be absolutely certain that's the one i want!

I haven't had to get a new ring but I do feel guilty that I fell in love with one that was more than what we had agreed on. It was just what I had pictured in my mind. Luckily FH was ok with the price. I messaged the artist on Etsy about moving forward with the purchase 2 days ago and haven't heard back yet. It's making me crazy!

    Ring AW:

I also feel bad that FH's ring cost about 20 times less than mine. It's what he wanted though, just a simple black ceramic band. It's light but scratch-resistant.

  • @celtic: I know what you mean. FI just wants a basic, basic band. I'm going to probably get him the 25 dollar tungsten one from JVL. The one I want is like 800 dollars :/

  • Yeah, that's us exactly! I think his ring was $30 plus shipping and mine will be between 700 and 800.

  • Go for it!  You will be wearing that ring forever.
