Best Wedding Dress shopping in Philly?

So I feel like I'm thrown in a loop!
We just moved here to Philly a couple weeks ago and while I'm loving it here, I'm also a little lost. I don't really know where everything is... So in a couple weeks a couple of my friends and I want to start the shopping for my dream dress.

Where should I go???? Any suggestions of where to avoid?

I highly recommend The Wedding Shoppe. It's in the suburbs (Wayne, PA) on the Main Line. I had a wonderful experience there and it's where I ended up buying my dress.

In Center City, there are really only a few places.  Bridals by Danielle is on 13th and Walnut, and their prices start around $2000.  Nicole Miller in the Bellvue hotel at Broad and Walnut.  The Sample Rack on 9th and Pine, which sells only sample gowns and is by appt only.  And a place called Bella something in the Piazza in Northern Liberties.

I tried all of those places (although my first comment to my mom upon entering Bridals by Danielle was that I'd be trying on for style, not to buy, so that she'd stop having a heart attack that most of the gowns were $5000+).  I had the best luck in South Jersey, which is only about 20 mins away.  The Bridal Garden on Route 70 in Marlton was very good --- they asked a budget and only showed me things within that budget (or that they could discount to become within that budget).  I found my dress at Irmas, which is also on Route 70 in Marlton, and they are FANTASTIC.  Her prices are great, as is her selection.  They don't take appts, but call ahead and talk to Irma, and then when you go in, ask to talk to Irma and then ask her if you can meet with her directly when it's your turn (if there's a list).  You may have to wait a little longer, but it's worth it.  She knows her inventory and what will look great on you.  I ended up falling in love with the first dress she showed me - she's that good!

Welcome, Meg!!!  There are a lot of really great places in Philly and the surrounding areas.

I actually got my dress in Newark, Delaware at the Bridal and Tuxedo Shoppe. There are a lot of other great shops in Delaware, too.  Brides & Grooms is used a lot.  A lot of girls here have used Irini's in Wilmington.

Are you getting married in Philly, also?
Paprika: I like it when you burp in my ear. It really turns me on.

Meg - is there a parcitular dress or designer you had in mind? I'm also new to Philly (well, I've been here for 2 years, but was clueless when it came to finding dress shops.) I found it helpful to look at pictures and online to get ideas and then went to the designer's websites to search for what stores carried those styles.

I second The Wedding Shoppe in Wayne. I also went to Bridal by Nicole in Jenkintown and Irma's Bridal in Cherry Hill, NJ (near the Bridal Garden - which is where my sister got her gown). They're all a little drive out of the city, but had great selections. I ended up buying mine at Irma's Bridal in Jersey - great experiences at each place though.

    Welcome to Philly!!!

I went to baranette's in willow grove, ashleys in warminster, and arielle in ambler. by far i go hands down to arielle. that is where i purchased my dress, had the least amount of stress, the girls listened and found what i was looking for, and it was clean. i found ashleys to be so crowded and dirty and baranette's to be pushy and not listen.  those are my tips! and if you head to ambler stop by deterra's while youre there for awesome food and drinks!

I really emjoyed my experience at Country Bride in North Wales.  I ended up getting my dress Bridals by Sandra in Nazareth, but it's a bit of drive if you live near the city (Nazareth is by Easton).
I personally did not enjoy my experience at Belle of the Ball in Trooper or Arielle Bridal in Ambler.  Have fun shopping!

I got mine at Priscilla of Boston at a sample sale.
I also loved the Bridal Shoppe in Wayne.
I wanted to go to the Sample Rack and bought my dress before I made it there.
I liked Sabrina Ann's which is a bridal consignment shop, I found it after I had my gown as well.

I have been on the knot forever and heard bad thing about both the Bridal Garden and Danielle's.

Yay! Thanks so much for all the input!

Thanks for the welcome to Philly, also. I'm really enjoying the city.... But the wedding won't be here. We're from the mid-West so we thought we'd stick to roots.

We're having our ceremony in a GORGEOUS cathedral, so the dress I'm looking for needs to be elegant, have at least a semi-cathedral train and very "me"/modern but classic. I'm lovingthe designer Maggie Sottero. But they dont seem to have a lot of dresses with trains...

Thanks for all the tips. I'm in Center City so I'll probably go to Danielle's but thanks for the heads up.

Welcome to Philly Meg!  I don't know of any places in Philly, but there are a few shops in Bucks County.  One of my friends went to Coronet Bridal on Street Road in Bensalem and really had a good experience there.

Meg - My dress is a Maggie :) I love it! I got it in Cherry Hill NJ, which is a close drive from Center City. It also has a very long train -  i may even shorten it a tad. If you want to see what stores in the area carry Maggie gowns, go to her site. At the top, plug in your zip code and it'll give you some store names. What I did was look online at dresses I like and then called the stores to see if they carried any of them.

    Good luck!

If you want a fun experience, with dresses under 1,000.00, then you should visit Stephanie's bridal shop in Pennsburg, PA.  It's such a great place, with experienced help, and a welcoming atmosphere.  it's worth the drive!  Right off of the turnpike of quakertown!

Nice!! That's great the Maggie dress has a long train. . . . I'm in for that! :) Sounds like I'll jump in the car and take a few weekend trips to all sorts of areas to dress shop! I've got my phone remembering everywhere you guys mention!

    Hi Meg,
It might be a little hit or miss but if you are looking for something unique, and maybe even other items for your wedding, there is a Bridal Barn Sale happening on June 12th at the John J. Audubon Center in Audubon, PA (it's really close to the King of Prussia Mall if that's helpful). I have heard that a lot of girls are going to be selling their dresses, myself included actually. you can register as a buyer right on www.partyspace.com.
Hope this is helpful, good luck and welcome to Philly!

My experience at Priscilla of Boston in Ardmor was wonderful.
I hear good things about the bridal shop off of Welsh Road in NE Philadelphia too.
