Ordering Bridesmaids dresses online?

I went to a bridesmaid botique with my girls today and sadly had to walk out without even trying any on.  They were all around $200 and nobody is able to afford to pay that for a dress they are only going to wear once.  We then went to Macy's but all they had were dark holiday and winter dresses.  So I came up with the idea to order online.  Has anyone done this?  If so, what sites were the best?

Re: Ordering Bridesmaids dresses online?

  • My girls tried on their dresses and then some of them ordered online, but just ordering a dress online without having tried it on can be tricky.

They wouldn't necessarily know their size unless they had their measurements and you wouldn't know if it would look good on all of them.

It's your wedding and if you feel comfortable ordering them online you might try looking at places that sell prom dresses, because some of them are very classy, and they are much cheaper than bridesmaid dresses sometimes.

I agree with CMGr, David's Bridal offers very affordable bridesmaid dresses in a wide range of colors. We ordered my jr bridesmaid dresses online to save money. Longer dresses will be more expensive on average than a shorter dress. It all depends on the look you'd like and the target price range. At House of Brides website, they are currently offering a deal on bridesmaid dresses for a few designers including no tax and free shipping. You have to search a little for the best value but the least expensive I found ranged from 119 to 129, though this may already be beyond what they can afford. If you haven't already, maybe offering your bm's to choose their own shoes in a universal metallic shade may help them to make a little extra room in their budget. Best of luck!

DD's bridesmaids ordered their dresses online from JCrew during a 30% off all clearance sale (watch for it - it will be coming up soon), and paid between $55 - $70 each for beautifully-made silk dresses.

You can also try Weddingshoppeinc.com for brand-name dresses like Alfred Sung and Dessy at a deep discount (for instance $108 for an Alfred Sung that normally retails for $189).

That's the most DD has ever spent on a BM dress, and she's been one many times, so it can be done.  Even a David's Bridal BM dress that was $155 she bought used on eBay for $74 (and sold it afterwards for $45).

The least she's spent was $38.  The bride for this wedding said "wear whatever you like", so she picked up a pretty green silk chiffon dress on last clearance at Macy's on the way to the rehearsal, yikes.  But she wore it again when she was a reader at her cousin's wedding, too.

    Good luck, happy shopping!
  • RK Bridal.  It is a store in NYC and they offer great online prices.  I would suggest trying on the dresses and then ordering them from RK.  My girls' Alfredo Angelo dresses were $118 each - no tax or shiipping.

  • Pearl's Place has the best prices.  You need to call them for that as with most of the real bridal vendors online.  You will save a lot.
  • Do not recommend ordering online,  the dresses may not come in the right fabric, color, or sizes.  Returning them may be a hassle and refund of money impossible.  If you go thru a full service bridal salon they will make sure you get the dress the way you want it with no hassles!

Please don't take a chance by ordering online.
  • I ordered one of my bridesmaid dresses online. We ordered a burgundy color swatch to make sure it would match the other girl's dresses which it did. So we ordered her dress,

The girl would've paid almost $200 per dress at the bridal shop but got the same exact thing on inweddingdress for $57. She was happy.
