I don't know about arms but I broke my knee a couple of years ago and I was in a hard cast for only 4 weeks and then a soft wrap around cast for 2 after that.  The soft cast went around my clothes.  An arm may not even take that long.   I think its best and ask him about this.  If he will need physical therapy later he may not be comfortable ushering.

That is selfish. I hope this is not a good friend of yours. Why can't he just drape the tux jacket over himself? Support your friend or family member who got hurt instead of ousting and replacing him.

I agree w/PP, it's selfish, weddings are about family and friends and stories to tell years later, I was at a wedding two weeks ago and one of the bridesmaids was in a cast, I doubt anyone thought the bride was horrible to NOT kick her out...I would let it be unless he approaches that he is physically unable or uncomfortable...

i'd maybe call the tuxedo rental place.  i'm sure he's not the only one who has ever had a cast and needed a tuxedo.  they probably could get very creative and help him fit in with the rest of the groomsmen.  i wouldn't focus on demoting him to an usher, i'd focus on ways to help him blend in with the rest of the groomsmen.  hopefully he will only need a sling or something and all this stress will be for nothing.

Thank you for advice. I've talked to those involved and happily found out that things are not as severe as originally anticipated.
