Pittsburgh Airport Marriott Update

Hey ladies! I know there are a few of us using the Airport Marriott for our reception and I just wanted to update you on our experience this past weekend!! We had our food tasting, as well as the meeting with Jeannie about decor, and we met with Jackie to go over the room block stuff. This is a bit long but I thought it might be helpful for those using the Marriott or considering it!

Decor Meeting: Overall, everything was great! Both Jeannie and Jackie were great to work with. I am a bit overwhlemed though- you will go over SO much stuff in your decor meeting with Jeannie. (table linens, room setup, menu, and every single other detail you can think of!). I left there exhausted, so many decisions! Jeannie said we can get back to her soon though if we change our mind on anything. She also has a TON of pictures of the weddings they have had there so definitely ask to see them if you aren't sure about the room setup, cake and cookie table setup, linens, etc.

Tasting: We LOVED the tri-color tortellini that they offer for the first course. Definitely choosing that one. The ravioli with vodka sauce was also very good. Then we tried the roasted red pepper bisque and potato leek soup. Both were very good but we decided not to go with a soup as a course. Instead, we are going to serve the spinach and strawberry salad after the tortellini.

Then we tasted 4 entrees: the roasted sirloin, tilapia, chicken toscana, and chicken mediterranean. The tilapia was good but didn't stand out. The roasted sirloin was a bit bland. Both chicken options were really good, though we are going with the Mediterranean because the sauce on the toscana was similar to the tortellini that we are already serving. We still want to offer a beef option too so we're going to do the beef tenderloin instead of the sirloin. Jeannie said we can try that one at a later date.

Room Block: Jackie was really nice and took us to see both the standard guest room as well as the executive suite. As a bride and groom, we get the Junior suite for the night of the wedding, but that wasn't available for us to see. Both of the other rooms were really nice and I'm actually considering using the executive suite for the day-of since it was really spacious and I'll be having both hair and makeup done in the room. We also looked at the back of the restaurant as an option for a hospitality room. She quoted us $250 for the rental, and then you can bring in your own drinks and food. We're planning to do that the night before the wedding, since a lot of out of towners will be in and we can mingle with them after the rehearsal. She also gave us some pointers for the welcome bags and explained how those will be handed out to our guests to make sure everyone gets one.

Re: Pittsburgh Airport Marriott Update

  • Great to hear all of that stuff!  When I talked to Jackie I told her I would be staying the friday before and we would be getting hair and makeup done there on saturday.  We decided to just book the junior suite that I will be staying at on saturday.  I am worried that that is still not big enough though.  I just saw the picture on their website.  Me, 8 bridesmaids, 2 moms and a flower girl are a lot of people.  What was the executive suite like?  I'm thinking that will be a good idea.  Not sure how that will work with check out.  Obviously I can not be checking out at noon becasue I will be getting ready!

Also, I did not know you could rent space for a hospitality room.  You had mentioned using it after your rehearsal.  Where are you having your rehearsal dinner?  Since my rehearsal will be at the Marriott I want to have it somewhere around there but I can not find anything I like.  I really wanted the rehearsal dinner not to be a huge expense because FMIL is paying and there seem to be some issues with that.  I know that she wants it to be really nice but I also no that money is tight.  Do you happen to have any suggestions if by chance you are having it out that way?   I was thinking if you could rent out some space at the hotel what if I did some sort of cocktail rehearsal dinner.  More casual and just serve really heavy appetizers?  What kind of space is it?  Do you think that would be possible or even appropriate?

This wedding planning is so stressful.  My wedding is in May and it seems that past month has been crazy getting all of the major compnents tied down.  Only a couple more to take care of, really hoping it becomes less stressful after that!
  • Aw I totally know what you mean about the stress, I've gotten a lot less stressed recently because we have all of our vendors selected. Also by the time you have the decor meeting with Jeannie, you will feel like everything is finally coming together. Don't worry! :)

The executive suite was awesome (2 separate rooms) and they only have like 4 of them I think, so you should book early. For me they quoted it $100 more than the room block price, which is still a very good deal for the room, but I think I might have myself that extra money and stick with the Junior suite. Jackie said they can set it up so that your BM's rooms are connected to the Junior suite so with the doors open and people able to use more than 1 bathroom, it works for getting ready.

Our ceremony is in Bridgeville, so we're having our rehearsal dinner at Burgh's Pizza and Wings. We wanted something more casual. Since we have a lot of OOT guests, we couldn't afford to invite them all but we figured we'll have the hospitality room open from 5-midnight, that way they can all mingle and that way its cheaper to supply our own food and booze for them. After our rehearsal dinner, we plan on spending time in the hospitality room to visit with guests to thank them for coming, etc. I think that space would work great for a rehearsal dinner, but there isn't a ton of seating because they have a portion of it with bigger chairs to sit in by the fireplace.  Also the courtyard is really nice and in May, you'd probably be able to have the dinner setup outside. Talk to Jackie and Jeannie though, I'm sure you could make it work somehow- I think they have packages for the rehearsal dinner too. The only bad thing is then everything is at the Marriott, you might get sick of being in the one place. Or it could be a good thing!

Have you looked at any other restaurants in the Robinson area? Since I'm OOT, I don't know how a lot of them are but I know Ditka's is near there, maybe they would work? Primanti's?

  • Glad to hear it went well! So disappointed to hear about the sirloin, because I love steak! I feel overwhelmed for you about the decor. I have plenty of time so I haven't given much thought to table linens set up, etc. I am sure everything will be beautiful in the end!
  • Caitlyn, I'm not sure if its because I am on my phone or I'm just an idiot but I can't figure out how to PM! If you get this will you send me a message so I can reply, I had a couple if questions!
