Anyone here?

Finally back home and settled here. Weekend was fun..the Childish Gambino concert was awesome. H and I lost in the beer pong tournament in the 1st round to my dad (who has never played before) and MY MOM won the tournament, go figure. Proud that we kept the title in the family...she was hilarious. I seriously think that's the happiest I've ever seen her lol. Also my sisters and all our boyfriends are legit sore from throwing rocks for hours yesterday. I love making up stupid games.

Anyone have any good weekend stories? What's up?

Re: Anyone here?

  • Heya.  I think that's awesome that your mom won the beer pong tourney!

We had family in town this weekend and they wanted to to see the 9-11 memorial at Ground Zero.  We had a nice time in the city but it was HOT, especially with all the trekking.

Now I'm sitting shamefaced because I clogged the garbage disposal, and waiting for H to come home from the only open store - Walmart - hoping they had the right kind of tool so we won't have to call a plumber.

  • Edie that sounds miserable.

Hope you guys can fix it JCG. I hate when I break/clog things. It's always me too...I love pushing appliances to their brink. But the "hey babe?" "what'd you break?" conversation is the worst.

    Hello!

We had a great weekend here--went out on Friday night and then went to Great Adventure on Saturday to see the zombie walk. We missed them because we were in the wrong part of the park, but we did have fun on the rides.

We're watching the Olympics and baseball and just hanging out. I'm pinning all of our fall activities so we don't forget any of our favorites.

ETA: It's hysterical that your mom won beer pong.  That would be my mom's luck, too.

YES.  Because I feel so stupid.

H is plunging the drain now, seems to be working (fingers crossed).

Nates - pinning fall activities is a great idea!  I can hardly wait for fall.

  • We got home just a little while ago after a looong weekend at camp. Now we get to sort through the 2000-ish photos we took so we can get them online for everyone else to see. :)
  • Fall is my favorite, too. I can't even wait. Every summer, I tell myself to just relax and enjoy the warm weather--beach, amusement parks, the boardwalk, bbqs, concerts--but I just can't. Inevitably, I end up wanting fall imediately.
  • I'm around but I have nothing exciting to report. I spent the day running errands. I really can't wait for wedding crap to be done. I've been to the mall more in the last 6 months than the last six years. I think I have bought everything I need for the wedding itself but I still need something to wear to the after party. The heat has me really cranky which just makes everything worse. Al Capone that's pretty awesome about your mom. My mother can drink most of our friends under the table. This is a mixed blessing.

  • Hey, all. H and I shopped all. farking. day. I'm exhausted.

I'm also trying to figure out how to plan a photo wall for the nursery that would span about 54". I wish there was a virtual photo wall planner, because I'm just not mentally capable of planning this these days. I've been fussing with it (and tearing it down) for three weeks.
  • Beautiful sig pic, Sept.

There is this thing that's been circling Pinterest. Maybe it might give you some ideas?

  • Thanks, Nates. I'm going to see if I can use that to help me visualize the wall. I think the problem is that the area of the wall it's going on isn't quite centred in the room, which is what's throwing me off. I also think H is about to shoot me, because he comes into the room every day and sees different configurations and me sitting there swearing.
  • Oh Hai!  I am sitting here ignoring boxes that need to be unpacked. We are leaving for the cottage on Tuesday and I have packed a shitton of alcohol to make up for the fact that I have had two negative pregnancy tests even though I am on day fucking 40 of my cycle.  I am going to make BBCs which have Bailey's, Bananas and Coconut Creme Rum Liquor in them. Yum!
  • Omg, September, I totally agree that they need a virtual portrait wall app or something...I made mine using Pages but it was incredibly long and annoying figuring out everthing to scale (teaching grade 8 math FINALLY came in useful IRL!!!!).
  • Ack, Numbers. I tried using Pages too and I think I was a babbling mess by the end. I need to be able to virtually apply the design to a room and then see it - off centre and everything - to see if it still makes me annoyed. That, or I'm hiring one of my artsy fartsy friends to do it for me. ;) Good call on the drinks, though. I'm sorry about the negative tests, but I highly support the deliciousness that you are planning to make.
  • Aww Sept you're adorable!

Yeah my mom played in the tournament last year and gave me and H a run for our money. I thought it was a fluke or beginners luck but this year has proved that she's just apparently good at beer pong. Must be where I got it from :)

Celtic what kind of after party is it/where is it? I think I wore pjs to ours at the hotel.

Have you ever gone to Houzz.com?  If you go there and look up gallery walls there are over 100 000 options. It doesn't help with the actually laying out of your wall though.

I got pretty far with pages but I have decided to put my gallery wall on another (larger) space...I was pretty intense about it, I even pasted the pictures I was planning to use into the diagram...let's see if this works...(I may DD later)

  • jcg - use the end of a broom handle to dislodge the garbage disposal.  Stick the broom handle straight up in the disposal and wiggle it around.  It works.

Dot - when I bought my storm door I had Home Depot install it.  It's all glass - heavier than a screen door - but I didn't want to screw it up.  Well worth the installation fee.

  • Oooh, thanks, number. I'm a) saving your picture as inspiration, and b) going to check out this Houzz.com. There may be something asymmetrical enough that will nudge me in the right direction for that weirdo wall.
  • Hahaah, I had like three variations going but I guess I deleted the screen caps when I decided to switch walls!  I am all about asymetrical when it comes to these things because I want to keep adding to it...hence the bigger wall!

We're having a day wedding and going out to the bars later with friends. It's very low key and "unofficial" but I still want something new and cute to wear. My initial plan was a dress but separates might be better.

Unfortunately I have no fashion sense.

  • Sometimes I wish I could have another PPD.  Just for kicks. Without the pricetag.
  • See, here's my dilemma. The wall I'm looking at is about 9' or so, and the area I'm wanting to put the photos over is about 4.5'. Sounds like it should be good, right? BUT, the change table isn't centred on the wall because I have other furniture that also has to go on that wall. So now I'm trying to figure out if I should just align the photos to be centred on the wall and ignore the fact that the furniture below them look out of whack, or try to make the pictures and the furniture somehow...harmonious. LOL. I'm so overthinking this, but it legit drives me crazy that it's not even!

I give up for tonight. I'm contemplating Oreo ice cream instead. :)
  • I'd try to make it asymetrical and then center it to the wall. Then you can pretend the furniture is off intentionally.

  • Celtic, that's kind of been my method thus far. I guess I'm just not all that creative or something lately, because I just can't be happy with the design. I didn't even spend this much time picking out my car...

The Oreo ice cream, though? Best idea of the day. :)
  • omg, I might kill someone soon. I cannot find one of my two slow-cookers for some reason.  I think I have checked every single box that has yet to be unpacked and I can't find it.

DH is currently rummaging through the boxes in the office searching for the plug to his old PC laptop so he can play some game. Sigh. I need to get out of boxes!!!

  • When do you guys go back to school, Number?

Sept, I have no advice--I just eyeball stuff until it looks right. I hear you on how frustrating it can be to plan wall hangings--I always think, "Ugh, I have to look at this forever! It better be right." Ha, the pressure is ridiculous :P

We don't go back til September 4th. Between now and then we are going to the cottage for 4 days, coming back for 2 weeks to finish unpacking the house, going to Montreal for 4 days, coming home for 3 days so I can set up my classroom and then going to the cottage for 4 days. I am mental.

I just found out today that I probably can't get into my school (new school) because of renos until the 28th. But it also occurred to me that a) I haven't taugh this grade in 5 years so most of what I have is useless and can just stay in boxes and b) if I make it to vice principal for next September then I may never actually open most of the boxes I packed in June and just burn them all (I joke, I joke - we are on a burn ban right now).  So I will have 3 days to unpack my stuff and set up. Not enough time. But somehow I will make it work.

    When do you go back?

I don't know if anyone is still here but I seriously had the best weekend of my entire life. I can't even express how many ways it was absolutely amazing, but it was. We are absolutely doing this next year!
