Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

"Indie" Wedding Music

I'm a really non-traditional bride, my fiance and I both share a major interest/bond with music so it's important to us that we get it right. Neither one of us want the traditional or typical wedding music to be played at our wedding. I've done some googling for Indie wedding music suggestions but it just isn't returning the reply that I want. Does anyone have some suggestions as far as where to look for ideas?

Are you looking for ceremony music? What bands/artists do you actually like?

We are using a few songs by Beruit, The Zombies "The way I feel Inside", and Five Years covered by Seu Jorge (from the Life Aquatic soundtrack). We might also use "Mothersbaugh Canon" by Mark Mothersbaugh (Royal Tennenbaums soundtrack). We are still deciding which other songs we are going to use. These are not all indie artists but that was the vibe I was going for.

I really love the sound of Ray LaMontagne's voice (esp Hold you in my arms and You are the best thing).. was thinking of using that on my wedding playlist.  Also, maybe She &Him "I was made for you."  Maybe try some Iron and Wine- they have that such great heights song (Postal service does a more upbeat version). Ingrid Michaelson - "The way i am."  Avett Brothers- January wedding (kinda twangy but you might like it too).  Wilco- I'm the man who loves you. Donora- Shhh .  Damien Rice- Cannonball. Daniel Martin Moore- It's You.

Hope that helps.  These are a bunch of songs and artists I really like.

I love Avett Brothers! I also really like Dan Wilson, a MN guy, used to be in Semisonic and Trip Shakespeare.

I'll second the Avett Brothers, She & Him, etc.

Also try Ben Harper, for sure, and Feist has a couple of cute lovey-dovey songs. Imogen Heap and Jem, Justin Nazuka... or whatever his last name is, too lazy to even Google tonight lmao! Rilo Kiley has a couple- especially "Only A Woman"

The Vitamin String Quartet has taken rock(ish) songs and redone them for a string quartet, they're awesome.
