Insanity

So... I really want to know about other people experiences with this program.  I have read a little of what other people have posted before, and am still curious.

Let me tell you a little about me.  Over the past 5 years I've lost about 80lbs using weight watchers and working out (and have gained like 15 back).  I run a lot (usually 6-7 miles 5-6 times a week) and eat fairly healthy (whole foods, fruits, veggies).

I started Insanity 30 days ago to switch things up because running/lifting hasn't been helping and my FI said he'd do it with me.  We've done it religiously over the past month (we're on the recovery week) and I haven't seen the scale move at all!  In actuality, the numbers have gone up.  My FI says "muscle weighs more than fat" but I haven't seen a difference in the way my clothes fit either.

Ugh.  I guess just a rant!  But, seriously, I wanna know what the heck! :)

Re: Insanity

  • i haven't done it but my fiance is doing it for our wedding right now and he is definitely seeing results.  He hasn't lost weight but he has gained muscle definition in his arms and stomach.  he doesn't stick to their diet plan but he does eat relatively well and 90% of what he eats is protein.  i've watched him do it and my opinion is that insanity is mostly for men... i think it's more of a muscle definition workout than anything... Good luck!!!
  • my FI did it last year and had results but when I did it Dec/Jan my results weren't as extreme.  The scale didn't change but I felt like I had more energy.  I was measuring myself once a month and there might have been an inch or two off of certain areas.  The biggest difference was a before and after picture- again I didn't look like the "insanity" after pictures but you could see that I had lost some tummy pudge...good luck
  • I love insanity! but i do agree that if you are trying to lose a bunch of weight its not the thing to do. Muscle definitiely weights more than fat. I would suggest it maybe more towards your wedding just to tone things up and get definition and feel energized like you said but not necessarily to shed a bunch of pounds :)

I started on Jillian Michael's DVDs last year in January and then started Insanity in April. Didn't stick to the schedule, just worked out when I could, and I didn't follow the diet.  Between the two, I lost a jean size and 9 pounds.  I would recommend using a calorie tracker, maybe you aren't eating enough calories back since it is such an intense workout. Also, give month two a try, it's super hard and will give you a change in routine which might get your weight loss moving.

I found it interesting that the weeks that I was actually able to workout 5-6 days, I would weigh more than weeks that I exercised fewer days. I don't know if it's just a coincidence or what the deal is with that.

I personally think Insanity can be used for weight loss because it is intense cardio. My husband lost about 18 pounds from doing Insanity two times through.

    Good luck!
  • Are you taking measurements?  My weight hasn't changed, but my measurements have changed considerably.  I'm about ot finish the 4th week, and I've lost a total of 4 inches.  I'm also watching my diet though too.

  • I didn't take measurements and I definitely should have... I was following the diet that insanity provides... and I was definitely eating too much... and too much deli meat!!
  • You were following their diet and you think you were eating too much?  Isn't the base for it like 1500 calories?  That shouldn't be too much unless youre like 4 feet tall and 80 pounds.  I burn 400-500 calories on any workout except the cardio recovery.  It's more likely that it wasn't ENOUGH.

  • maybe you're right.  I think I need to pick different foods to eat on the plan.
  • just wanted to update you all... my FI and I started month 2 this week... and I'm feeling it!!!  It really brings you back down to earth and makes you realize how hard this program is!!!
