to change or not to change?

Hello ladies! loving looking at all the gorgeous wedding pictures of this month's brides:)

my question is work e-mail related...i'm in a contract job until february but it may end up permanent.  my email is currently my first intitial and my last name and i'd like to change it to my married name.  do you think it's worth it?

Re: to change or not to change?

  • I am in the process of changing mine through Gmail for my personal email. It is a bit of a headache.  HR let me know that it may take a few months to change at school.

I think it is worth it, if you will be taking your husband's name.  That way, you can avoid any future confusion.

  • I'm actually in charge of creating and managing e-mail accounts for my company...i wouldn't actually be able to change my name in the email, i'd have to create a new address and just synch it with my email handler.

i really want to cahnge it becuase EVERYTHING else is being changed!
  • Change it.  This will be the 2nd time I changed my name in 2 years but it is totally worth it.

  • I would change it. My work has a way of forwarding my old emails to my new email address for awhile until it catches on. Have you tried asking your company if they can do this? Then I would just email all my contacts with the change so they know to make it. Good luck!

</div><div>Jenna,</div><div>How do you transfer your old gmail messages to your new account?  I started my new gmail address with my new name and figured out how to forward incoming emails from my old address to my new one.  I also somehow figured out how to transfer my contacts.  But I can't figure out transferring old messages.  Any tips?</div><div>

It took a few days for IT to get around to changing my actual email address, but it's finally set up! I wish it was that easy with all the other steps... :)

For my personal gmail, I just made a new account so I have something fresh and clean, and I won't be subscribed to as many things. I also set up an experiment: an out of office from my old account that says my name has changed. I'm curious who will actually go in and update my info on their email lists. (I'm an email marketing manager, so that's just the email nerd in me trying to figure that out...)
