4x4 Beach- NO BEACH Walkway?

Hi All-

We decided we would really like to have our ceremony and reception on the 4x4 beaches since thats where we vacation every year. I found a house I am totally in love with, as in took my breath away per-fec-tion for us. I'm in love with the color red, and the stairs leading to the house are red, and it has a giant adirondack chair by the stairs, which is also Red! And, the pool area is amazing... I can't say enough about the home. The only problem is, and its a big one, there is no walkway to the beach. So, guests would have to either walk over the sand dunes or drive down to the ceremony...

Anyone have any thoughts on how this might work??

Btw, this is the house:

GORGEOUS!  WOW!  Have you considered having the wedding on the deck and then you can do pictures on the beach?

Thanks Lady! I had not thought about that... We had always wanted to be married on the beach that the idea hadnt crossed my mind... that would make it much easier for all involved that way... And, everyone could probably hear us better from the house with less wind...

    Great idea!

OMG, My fiance and I have been talking about this exact same house, although we have never been there before. Can we chat about the area and wedding ideas? We're planning on sept 2012, when are you getting married?
  • edited December 2011
We have been to the area for yearrrrs. We love it, way less crowded, more peaceful, just overall incredibly relaxing! We are Sept 2012 too!! We are not set on a date yet, but we were looking around our anniversary most likely, which is Sept 5th. This falls into the week we normally are in OBX anyways so it worked out... When is yours?

We were looking into the first week in Sept also... Are you staying at the Dream this year too? The pictures look nice!!

Oh geez haha... Well we aren't set on the date, it was just our first idea since it has a meaning to us. But, no this year we are renting Second Star to the Right, we typically go down with about 24 to 28 people and have rented a bunch of the homes on the 4x4. I will absotuely be taking a tour and checking out the house when we are there though! I can def post pictures when we get back!

If you do pick this house and get married before us you NEED to tell me how it goes! :) What are your plans for working with no walkway to the beach?

Hi Blue and welcome to the board!

BOTH of you have superb tastes....this home is gorgeous and even better in person!  I think a ceremony on the deck near the pool, with the ocean as your backdrop, would be absolutely gorgeous!

Thanks OBX! Have you seen/stayed in this home?? I'm not going to lie, the red stairs and adirondack chair are totally selling me. Pictures would look amazing on them!

FYI, this is how not to have a 4x4 beach wedding.  My son lives in the 4x4 year round.  This was taken on 6.12.11.  Notice how they actually roped off the area over the "dune" lanes that are for emergency vehicles.  Just crazy and very disrespectful of the full-time residents.

I am just posting this so everyone is aware of what goes on up there.

I know you will have a beautiful wedding and especially in that house.

Thank you for posting that!! I was curious how that worked.. We have always been furhter down where there is very little traffic so the cars were not as much of a concern, not to mention, we would be down near the water where we are allowed to be during normal beach flow.

Maybe the idea of having the ceremony on the deck overlooking the water with pictures on the beach is what we will go with...

Btw, I am SO jealous that your son gets to live in my version of paradise! Lucky him! And you for being able to visit :):)

I would love to live there but I will have to hit the lottery.  The bad part about living there year round is that it is a tourist driven area which means little, if any, income during the winter.  But they say it is worth it in the end.

Yes, I love to visit as it is so peaceful and quiet especially in the Spring and Fall.

I think we're coming down to the area the middle of Sept this year and we're too going to look at the house, I hope it's as nice as the pictures look and any other pictures would be great! I think we're thinking about having a ceremony at a different location and then coming back to the house with a catered reception there, at least that was the thought! Kinda of looking for a gardens, gazebo, something with grass, maybe not too much of a drive, for the ceremony.

Boderboo- I can definitely see how it would be hard in the off season with income. Maybe you can help me actually, besides September, we were thinking of doing the wedding on New Years or shortly there after. Do you know what the weather is usually like there at that time? We are not at all set on a date so we are open to options we just wanted to have as much privacy and peace and quiet as possible!

Blue- thats a great idea too, let me know what you end up finding because we love the idea of maybe in a garden or on a pier for pictures. I'm all about doing things based upon the pictures as I'm sure you can tell :) And I can definitely take pictures when we are there!

The Dream was our "dream location" too!!!  the name really is fitting; our friends got married in the 4x4 and they and their guests said if they could do it over again, they wouldn't have done it there; their only stresses were getting everyone on & off the 4x4 beach; the bride was even pushing her pregnant friend's car out of a sand dune right after she had gotten her hair done... if you have a group of people who are going to want to be out & about and enjoying OBX, it may be a little tough to have it there... also, check with your preferred vendors because they often charge extra for 4x4

...wow, not to be a downer, SORRY!  Just playing devil's advocate, and before you commit, a few thinngs to keep in mind.  If you go with it, sorry I don't have suggestions for the walk, but it's a BEAUTIFUL home and you will have an amazing time because people make due since they love you!  Just don't over commit yourself to helping people get back and forth :-)

Hi Tcigal! Welcome to the OBX Boards! :)

Thanks for all the tips, and dont worry your not a downer at all! Thats why I posted it because I was elated with the house and sometimes love is blind haha. That was our biggest concern was getting people to and from the beach, but, I think we are renting a few houses so most of our guests if not all will already be on the 4x4 area. We also are not having too many outside vendors other than the photographers. It will all boil down to when we decide on our final guest list I suppose, we are still torn between going all out and inviting 150 people and limiting it to our closest family and friends.

Where was your friends wedding on the 4x4, if you dont mind me asking! :)
Thank you again for all the tips!

Scheff~~~BoderBoo's son is my brother so that makes her my mother...obviously, lol.  I have seen this house in person and it is beautiful!  BBoo is right about the 4x4 area though....something about roping off a PUBLIC beach as if it were your own drives me up the wall.  Probably b/c I am so over-protective of that area.

Whichever way you decide to go....be it a pool-side ceremony or a beach ceremony...it will be beautiful :)  And yes, pictures by the red stairs & giant red chair would be awesome!

OBX- I had put the dots together there on the mother-daughter situation :) Have you visited your brother in the off season at all? I'm really curious about the weather there in the off months!

And I completely agree about the rope... that idea has not even so much as floated through my brain. The whole point of the beach and the ocean to me is the natural beauty, rope is just distracting and I'm not really sure of the point of it... to keep people out? If your on a public beach it comes with the territory..but thats just me!

And thank you for the insider views since you've seen the house, I really do love that house... I will definitely check it out while I'm in OBX in Sept! :)
